API Cichlid Pellets Large 200gm.

A floating pellet sized for cichlids that have outgrown the small stuff. API Cichlid Large Pellets are a 33.6%-protein floating food built for cichlids over 5 inches – oscars, larger Central and South American cichlids, and big African species. Sold here in a 200 g pack.

Key features
  • 33.6% minimum crude protein – whole menhaden fish meal and shrimp meal as the leading protein sources.
  • Floats, then softens – large cichlids feed readily at the surface; the pellet holds its shape long enough to be caught before breaking down.
  • Spirulina and banana flour – natural colour enhancers alongside the protein base, rather than synthetic dye alone.
  • Full vitamin and mineral premix – chelated trace minerals for better uptake than inorganic mineral salts.

Which cichlid pellet do I need?

API sizes its cichlid pellets by fish length, not by tank size. Choose Large for cichlids over 5 inches; a smaller cichlid on a Large pellet may struggle to fit it in its mouth, which wastes food and fouls water.

Feeding directions

Feed twice a day, only as much as your fish will consume within 3 minutes. Large cichlids are strong feeders and will beg past the point of being full – stick to the 3-minute rule rather than the fish's enthusiasm.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for:

  • Oscars and other large cichlids over 5 inches, as a primary diet

Not suitable for:

  • Small or juvenile cichlids under 5 inches – the pellet size is too large; choose a Medium or Small pellet instead
  • Invertebrates or plants sensitive to overfeeding residue – large cichlid tanks foul quickly if this is overfed

Common questions

What size cichlid is this pellet for?

API formulates this as its Large pellet for cichlids over 5 inches, such as oscars and larger Central, South American and African species. Smaller cichlids should be fed a smaller pellet size.

Does this pellet enhance colour?

Yes. Spirulina and banana flour in the formula are natural colour enhancers, alongside the overall protein and vitamin base that supports general health and vibrancy.

Will this pellet cloud the water if I overfeed?

Yes. Feed only what your cichlids clear within 3 minutes. Large cichlids often beg for more than they need, and uneaten pellets breaking down on the substrate are a common cause of cloudy water and ammonia spikes.
