Aqua Medic mV Probe L120mm - Glass - Laboratory Standard
Laboratory-grade redox response for setups where the plastic probe is not accurate enough. The Aqua Medic mV Probe L120mm Glass Laboratory Standard is a glass-bodied redox (ORP) electrode, 120 mm to the top of the glass and roughly 160 mm overall, built for hobbyists running demanding ozone dosing, calcium reactor or reef-control systems who need a more precise, more repeatable mV reading than a plastic-bodied probe gives.
Key features
- Glass body, laboratory standard – the same construction used in lab-grade ORP electrodes, for a faster, more stable response than a plastic-bodied probe.
- Standard BNC connection – works with all Aqua Medic measuring units and with most third-party monitors and controllers fitted with a BNC input.
- Shallow immersion design – only needs a few centimetres in the water column, so it fits tight sump baffles or dosing chambers.
- Consumable electrode, 6-month warranty – Aqua Medic classes pH and mV electrodes as wear items, so the warranty term reflects normal ageing rather than a manufacturing fault.
- Handle with care – the glass tip is more accurate but more fragile than the plastic-bodied version; potassium chloride crystallisation on the body during transport or storage is normal and rinses off without affecting accuracy.

Which mV probe do I need?
Aqua Medic sells this electrode in three formats. All three read the same redox signal – the difference is body material and fitting.
| Model | Body | Length | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| L120mm Plastic Standard | Plastic | 120 mm | Everyday reef and marine monitoring, general controller pairing |
| L120mm Glass Laboratory Standard (this page) | Glass | 120 mm (160 mm overall) | Laboratory-grade response for demanding dosing or ozone-control setups |
| L70mm Plastic PG13.5 Threaded | Plastic | 70 mm | Compact in-line mounting through a PG13.5 fitting where panel or sump clearance is tight |
Care and maintenance
Rinse the tip with fresh water between readings if you move the probe between tanks. Any white crystalline residue on the body after transport is dried potassium chloride from the internal reference solution – it does not affect accuracy and rinses away. Because the glass tip is more delicate than the plastic-bodied probe, avoid knocking it against sump walls or plumbing when installing or removing it.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for reef and marine setups where dosing, ozone or calcium-reactor control depends on an accurate, stable redox reading – the accuracy this glass probe offers is the reason to choose it over the plastic version.
Not the best fit where the probe will be handled roughly or moved between systems often – the plastic-bodied L120mm Standard probe is more tolerant of everyday knocks.
Warranty and delivery
Electrodes carry a 6-month Aqua Medic warranty as a wear item, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard delivery applies.
Common questions
What is the difference between this and the plastic L120mm probe?
Both read the same 120 mm redox signal and use the same BNC connector. The glass body on this probe gives a faster, more stable, laboratory-grade response; the plastic-bodied version trades a little precision for everyday durability.
Is the glass tip fragile?
It is more delicate than a plastic-bodied probe, so mount it where it will not be knocked, and handle it by the body rather than the tip when installing or removing it.
What is the white residue on the probe when it arrives?
That is potassium chloride from the internal reference solution crystallising during transport or storage. It has no effect on measurement accuracy and rinses off with fresh water.
Why is the warranty only six months?
Aqua Medic classes pH and mV electrodes as consumables – the glass membrane and reference junction age with use, so the warranty reflects normal wear rather than a fault.
