Aqua Medic Outlet/Overflow Strainer
Slotted strainers keep detritus out of overflow pipework, in six sizes. This ABS outlet strainer fits over the overflow pipe in a marine or freshwater sump, its slotted body screening out coarse detritus and stray livestock while keeping water moving freely into the drain. It's sold in six pipe-diameter and length combinations covering 20 mm through to 50 mm pipework, so you can match it to the exact plumbing already running from your tank to the sump.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: any sump overflow running 20–50 mm pipe.
- Not suitable for: overflow pipe outside that range – measure your pipe's outside diameter before ordering, since the 32 mm and 40 mm variants look similar but aren't interchangeable.
Care and maintenance
Rinse periodically to clear trapped detritus so flow doesn't back up through the overflow.

Common questions
How do I know which size I need?
Measure the outside diameter of your existing overflow pipe. Aqua Medic offers this strainer in 20, 25, 32, 40 and 50 mm to match standard aquarium pipe sizes, with two length options at 20 mm.
Does it reduce flow?
The slotted design is sized to screen out detritus without materially restricting the flow the pipe itself can carry, though a heavy debris load will need rinsing to keep it clear.
Will it stop fish or shrimp going over the overflow?
It screens out coarse debris and larger livestock, but very small fry or shrimp can still pass through the slots – it isn't a fry-proof screen.
Is it a push fit or does it need glue?
Push fit over the end of the pipe. No solvent welding is required.
