Aquavitro Remediation

A bacterial clean-up crew for waste your filter never touches. Aquavitro Remediation is a bio-augmentation product for freshwater and marine aquariums: a blend of bacteria developed for aquaculture use that breaks down excess food, sludge, detritus and the organic waste sitting in substrate and dead spots, rather than just filtering water that passes through media.

Key features
  • Breaks down solid waste, not just dissolved waste - targets sludge, uneaten food and detritus building up in substrate and low-flow corners a canister or sump filter never reaches.
  • Reduces ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and phosphate - the bacteria consume the organics that would otherwise break down into these compounds.
  • Produces biopolymers that trap fine particles - contributes to clearer water as a side effect of the clean-up process.
  • Works in fresh and saltwater - the same bottle suits both, so one product covers a mixed collection of tanks.

Dosage and directions

Shake well before use. Turn off UV sterilisers and ozone while dosing, and leave them off for 2-3 days afterwards to let the bacteria establish.

  • Initial dose: 5 mL per 40 L (10 US gallons).
  • Maintenance dose: 5 mL per 80 L (20 US gallons), used when adding livestock or whenever the biofilter has been disrupted - after a filter clean, a big water change, or a course of medication.

If the tank has recently carried antibiotics, do a water change and run fresh carbon to clear them before dosing Remediation - antibiotics that knock back the target bacteria will blunt the product before it gets started.

AquaVitro does not publish the specific bacterial species in Remediation's blend; it's described only as bacteria selected and developed for aquaculture use. If exact strain identity matters for your system, check with the manufacturer directly before dosing.

Which size do I need?
Size Litres treated (initial dose)
150 mL ~1,200 L
350 mL ~2,800 L
1 L ~8,000 L

Litres treated is worked from the initial 5 mL per 40 L dose, the more concentrated of the two dose rates, so it's the conservative figure - ongoing maintenance dosing at 5 mL per 80 L stretches every bottle further than the table shows.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for: freshwater and marine aquariums carrying a build-up of organic waste in substrate or filter media, new tanks establishing a biofilter, and any system recovering after medication or a heavy clean disrupted the existing bacterial colony.

Not suitable for: use at the same time as a running UV steriliser or ozone reactor - both will kill the bacteria before they can establish. Turn them off first.

Safety

Clear antibiotics from the water before dosing - AquaVitro's own instructions note that residual antibiotics will work against the bacteria in this product. Persistent high nutrients despite regular dosing usually point to overstocking, overfeeding or filtration that's undersized for the bioload, which this product will not fix on its own.

Goes well with
  • Aquavitro Seed, for establishing the nitrifying and denitrifying biofilter itself, alongside Remediation's ongoing waste breakdown.
  • A quality ammonia and nitrate test kit, to confirm nutrient levels are actually falling rather than assuming the dose is working.
  • A gravel vacuum, since Remediation reduces organic build-up but doesn't replace mechanical removal of solid waste at water changes.
Warranty and delivery

Shelf life is 4 years from the manufacture date; store as directed and check the date on arrival. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless of anything the manufacturer states. Standard parcel freight applies to all three sizes.

Common questions

Can I dose Remediation and Seed at the same time?

Yes - they target different jobs. Seed establishes the nitrifying bacteria that process ammonia and nitrite, while Remediation focuses on breaking down solid organic waste. Many AquaVitro users run both.

Do I need to turn off my filter while dosing?

No, keep your main filter running. The only equipment to switch off is a UV steriliser or ozone reactor, both of which will kill the bacteria you've just added.

How long until I see clearer water?

AquaVitro doesn't publish a fixed timeframe, and it will vary with bioload and dosing consistency. Follow the maintenance schedule and judge by your own water test results rather than a calendar date.

Is this safe for both fish-only and reef tanks?

Yes, AquaVitro markets Remediation for both freshwater and marine systems, which includes reef tanks, though as with any additive it's worth introducing at the stated dose rather than a heavier one.
