Bioscape Black Foam Intake Insert Velocity 1000 1Pk

The main intake sponge for a Bioscape Velocity 1000 internal filter, sold as a single replacement. This is the coarse black foam that sits over the filter's intake, doing the bulk of the mechanical filtration before water reaches the cartridge chamber — a different part to the smaller motor compartment foam used elsewhere in the Velocity range.

Key features
  • Primary mechanical filtration — traps larger debris, plant matter and fish waste before it reaches the filter's media chamber and impeller.
  • Sized for the Velocity 1000 — a direct fit for the 1000 L/h model only; it does not fit the 400, 700, 1500 or 2000.
  • Sold singly — this is the one larger intake sponge rather than the smaller multi-piece motor compartment packs used on other Velocity models.

Which Velocity filter do I have?

Bioscape's Velocity range is numbered by flow rate. Check the model number printed on the filter body, or match it against your tank size:

Model Flow rate Wattage Suits tank up to
Velocity 400 400 L/h 6 W 40 L
Velocity 700 700 L/h 10 W 70 L
Velocity 1000 1000 L/h 15 W 100 L
Velocity 1500 1500 L/h 25 W 150 L
Velocity 2000 2000 L/h 30 W 200 L
What's included

One black intake foam sponge sized for the Velocity 1000. The filter body, impeller, carbon bag, phosphate pad and motor compartment foam are not included.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: the Bioscape Velocity 1000 internal filter, freshwater or saltwater.
  • Not suitable for: the Velocity 400, 700, 1500 or 2000 — each of those uses its own sized foam.
Care and maintenance

Bioscape hasn't published a fixed replacement interval. Rinse the sponge in tank water at each filter clean to keep flow up, and replace it once it's compressed, torn or won't spring back into shape.

Warranty and delivery

Sold as a standard consumable spare part. Any fault on arrival is covered under your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a small parcel.

Common questions

Is this the same foam as the Velocity 1500 or 2000 motor compartment pack?

No. This is the intake sponge, a different part in a different position, sized only for the Velocity 1000.

Why is this sold as a single piece when other Velocity foams come as a 4-pack?

The intake sponge is one larger piece that does the bulk of the mechanical filtering, rather than several small discs — one replacement covers one filter clean-out cycle.

How often should I replace it?

There's no fixed interval from Bioscape. Rinse it regularly and replace it once it stays flattened or starts tearing rather than holding its shape.

Will a coarser sponge reduce my filter's flow rate?

A clean sponge shouldn't meaningfully affect the Velocity 1000's rated 1000 L/h output. A clogged, compressed one will — that's the main reason to replace rather than keep rinsing indefinitely.
