Bioscape Black Foam Intake Insert Velocity 400/700 1Pk
Replacement intake foam for the Bioscape Velocity 400 and 700 internal filters. This is the black particulate foam that sits over the filter's intake slots, catching debris before it reaches the impeller – fit a fresh one once the original foam is too clogged or torn to rinse back to shape.
Key features
- One insert, two filters – Bioscape uses the same intake foam across the Velocity 400 (BIS160) and Velocity 700 (BIS161), so one part number covers both.
- Catches debris before the impeller – mechanical pre-filtration keeps larger particles out of the pump housing, so the impeller keeps spinning freely.
- Cheaper than a new filter – when the original foam won't rinse clean or has torn, this restores intake filtration without replacing the whole unit.

Which intake foam do I need?
Bioscape sizes the intake foam to the filter, not the tank, so match the part number to the model printed on your filter:
| Filter model | Rated flow | Suits aquariums up to | Intake foam part |
|---|---|---|---|
| Velocity 400 (BIS160) | 400 L/h | 40 L | BIS165 (this product) |
| Velocity 700 (BIS161) | 700 L/h | 70 L | BIS165 (this product) |
| Velocity 1500 (BIS163) | 1,500 L/h | 150 L | BIS168 |
| Velocity 2000 (BIS164) | 2,000 L/h | 200 L | BIS169 |
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: the intake slots on the Bioscape Velocity 400 and Velocity 700 internal filters, freshwater or saltwater.
- Not suitable for: the Velocity 1500 or 2000, which use a larger foam (BIS168 and BIS169) – fitting the wrong size leaves gaps around the intake and lets debris straight through.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the foam in used tank water at each water change – tap water's chlorine will kill off the bacteria living in it. Replace it once it's torn, has lost its shape, or won't rinse back to an open, springy texture; a clogged intake foam is one of the more common causes of a Velocity filter's flow dropping off over time.
Warranty and delivery
Sold as a standard replacement part; any fault on arrival is covered under your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a small parcel.
Common questions
Does this fit the Velocity 400 or the Velocity 700?
Both. Bioscape uses the same intake foam (BIS165) for the Velocity 400 and Velocity 700 internal filters.
Will this fit my Velocity 1500 or 2000?
No – those models use larger intake foams, BIS168 and BIS169. Check the flow rating printed on your filter before ordering.
How often should I replace it?
There's no fixed calendar interval published by Bioscape – rinse it at each water change and replace it once it won't rinse back to an open texture or the flow noticeably drops even after rinsing.
