Bioscape Dragon Wood per kg
Perforated driftwood that adds instant cave structure to a freshwater aquascape. Bioscape Dragon Wood is natural driftwood riddled with small holes and hollows from the way it's grown and harvested, giving an aquascape structure and shelter that flat branch-wood can't match. It's sold per kilogram, so the exact piece and shape you receive will vary.
Key features
- Natural cave structure – the holes and nooks running through each piece create shelter for fish and shrimp without any carving or gluing needed.
- Genuine driftwood, not resin – grain, weight and finish are natural, so no two pieces look the same.
- Releases tannins – like any untreated hardwood, it will tint the water amber over the first weeks, which many blackwater and biotope setups want.
- Sold per kilogram – buy the weight you need for your layout rather than a fixed piece.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: freshwater aquascapes, biotope and blackwater setups, paludariums and terrarium hardscape above the waterline.
- Not suitable for: reef and marine tanks – driftwood tannins and organics are not intended for saltwater systems.
Preparation
Fresh driftwood usually floats. Soak or weigh Dragon Wood down until it waterlogs and sinks on its own – this can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the piece's density. Soaking also leaches out the heaviest tannin release before the wood goes into the display tank, so the water clouds and colours less once it's in.
Care and maintenance
No ongoing maintenance is needed once a piece has waterlogged. If tannin colouring isn't wanted long-term, run activated carbon in the filter to keep the water clear.
Goes well with
Pairs well with fine gravel or aquasoil pressed into the base holes, and with epiphyte plants such as Anubias or Java fern tied on rather than planted in substrate.
Warranty and delivery
As a natural product, each piece is unique in shape, colour and hole pattern – the photo is representative rather than exact. Covered by your consumer guarantee rights under Australian Consumer Law against a materially different or damaged shipment. Ships as a bulky item; delivery costs may apply.
Common questions
Will Dragon Wood sink straight away?
No. Most pieces float at first and need soaking or weighting until they waterlog, which can take days to weeks depending on density.
Is it reef safe?
No – Dragon Wood is intended for freshwater and paludarium use, not marine or reef systems.
How much do I need for a mid-size tank?
That depends on your layout, but budgeting by kilogram lets you build up a scape gradually and add more if the structure needs filling out.
