Bioscape Paludarium Open Front 45 x 45 x 60cm 6mm
An open-front glass paludarium sized for a compact aquatic-to-terrestrial build. The Bioscape Paludarium Open Front measures 45 × 45 × 60 cm and is built from 6mm ultra-clear glass, with a 20cm-high front panel that sets the practical waterline for the aquatic zone below an open top for planting, hardscape and land area above.
Key features
- Ultra-clear glass – low-iron glass panels keep the front view free of the green tint standard float glass shows at this size.
- Open-front design – the front panel stops at 20cm, leaving the upper section open for hand access, misting, planting and airflow into a terrestrial zone.
- 6mm glass throughout – sized for this tank's dimensions and water depth; don't use it as a rimless flat-top aquarium filled beyond the front panel height.
- Bare glass enclosure – sold as the tank only, so you can specify your own filtration, lighting, heating and stand to suit a freshwater paludarium or planted build.
Specifications
| External dimensions | Glass thickness | Front panel height | Approx. water-zone volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45 × 45 × 60 cm (W × D × H) | 6mm ultra-clear | 20cm | ~30–38L* |
*Calculated from the internal footprint at the 20cm front panel height. Bioscape doesn't publish a water-zone litre rating for this open-front design, since the actual usable volume depends on the substrate depth and hardscape you build in – treat this as a guide, not a fill line.
What's included, and what's not
This listing is the glass enclosure only. It does not include a filter, light, heater, lid, background or stand – you'll need to select these separately to suit your planned aquatic and terrestrial zones. Bioscape doesn't specify a cover for this open-front design, so if a secure lid matters for your livestock, check with us before ordering.
Which size do I need?
| Model | External dimensions | Glass thickness | Front panel height | Approx. water-zone volume |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paludarium Open Front 45×45×60cm | 45 × 45 × 60 cm | 6mm | 20cm | ~30–38L |
| Paludarium Open Front 60×45×90cm | 60 × 45 × 90 cm | 8mm | 30cm | ~60–76L |
The 45×45×60cm is the smaller of the two open-front paludariums Bioscape builds this way – a desktop-scale footprint that suits a single dart frog or small gecko setup, a nano riparium, or a first paludarium build where you want to learn the format before committing to the larger 60×45×90cm.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater paludarium, riparium and planted terrestrial-aquatic builds, and for reptile or amphibian enclosures where the keeper is assembling their own filtration, heating and lighting. Not suitable as a sealed, fully submerged aquarium filled above the 20cm front panel – the open top isn't built to hold water pressure above that line.
Placement and handling
Glass tanks are heaviest and most fragile at the base – always lift from underneath, never by the rim, and set it down on a flat, level surface rated for the combined weight of glass, substrate, hardscape and water once built. Bioscape doesn't publish an empty or filled weight for this model; if floor loading is a concern for your stand or flooring, get in touch before ordering.
Care and maintenance
Wipe down glass panels with an aquarium-safe cleaner – avoid household glass cleaners, which can leave residue harmful to fish and amphibians. Check the silicone seams periodically for lifting or cloudiness, particularly around the open front edge where it sees the most handling.
Goes well with
A filter and heater sized to whatever water volume you end up building to, a light rated for live plants if you're planting the terrestrial zone, and a background or foam wall if you want to hide equipment and give amphibians more climbing surface.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. As a glass item, freight is handled with additional packaging care – get in touch if you need freight details for your postcode before ordering.
Common questions
Does this come with a filter, light or heater?
No – it's the glass enclosure only. You'll need to add your own filtration, lighting and heating to suit what you're keeping.
Can I fill it right to the top like a normal aquarium?
No. The front panel is 20cm high, which sets the practical waterline – the open section above it isn't designed to hold water pressure.
Is there a lid included?
Bioscape doesn't specify a cover for this open-front design. If a secure, escape-proof lid matters for what you're keeping, check with us before you order.
What's the difference between this and the 60×45×90cm model?
The 60×45×90cm is bigger all round – larger footprint, taller, 8mm glass instead of 6mm, and roughly double the approximate water-zone volume. It suits a more established or larger-bodied setup; this 45×45×60cm size is the better starting point for a first build or a smaller occupant.
