Easy Life Fluid Filter Medium
Clears cloudy water without chemicals or a water change. Easy-Life Fluid Filter Medium is a liquid water conditioner from the Netherlands, dosed straight into the aquarium to clear cloudy water, bind waste and support the biological filter. It's made from a proprietary blend of natural ingredients rather than chlorine, flocculants or bacteria, and is safe for regular use in freshwater and marine tanks.
Key features
- Clears cloudy water – clumps suspended particles so your filter can remove them, typically within 4–16 hours in a normal aquarium (up to 48–72 hours in a heavily contaminated tank).
- Binds waste and supports the biological filter – works alongside your existing filtration rather than replacing it.
- Gentle on pH – no significant effect on pH between 5 and 10; on water outside that range it nudges pH 0.4–0.6 towards neutral.
- No need to switch anything off – safe to dose with UV clarifiers and protein skimmers still running.
- From 1.5c per litre of tank water treated at the standard maintenance dose – see Cost per litre below.
- Unlimited shelf life at room temperature, so a larger pack won't go to waste.

What's in it
Easy-Life doesn't publish a line-by-line ingredient list for Fluid Filter Medium. The manufacturer describes it only as a proprietary mixture of natural ingredients, and states the product contains no added chemicals and no bacteria. Easy-Life cites independent testing showing an 83.7% reduction in E. coli within 3 minutes of dosing, rising to 95% within 6 minutes, in treated water.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquariums, for routine maintenance dosing and water changes, for fish showing minor stress or discomfort, and at a higher dose for quarantine or after transport.
Easy-Life doesn't publish species-specific exclusions for this product. If your tank holds sensitive invertebrates or newly arrived, wild-caught fish, start at the standard maintenance dose rather than a problem dose, and watch how they respond.
Dosage and directions
| Situation | Dose |
|---|---|
| Routine maintenance and water changes | 10 mL per 30 L |
| Minor stress or discomfort | 10 mL per 15 L, repeat after 24 hours if needed |
| Serious issues (bacterial infection, transport, quarantine) | 10 mL per 10 L, repeat after 24 hours if needed |
Shake well before use, then add directly to the aquarium – there's no need to pre-mix it or turn off UV clarifiers or skimmers. Temporary cloudiness after dosing is normal and shows the product is working; it typically clears in 4 to 16 hours, or up to 48 to 72 hours in a heavily contaminated tank.
Cost per litre
Calculated from the standard maintenance dose of 10 mL per 30 L of tank water:
| Size | Treats | Cost per litre |
|---|---|---|
| 250 mL | 750 L | 2.8c per litre |
| 500 mL | 1,500 L | 2.0c per litre |
| 1000 mL (1 L) | 3,000 L | 1.7c per litre |
| 5 L | 15,000 L | 1.5c per litre |
The 5 L pack works out cheapest per litre treated at the standard dose – worth stepping up if you dose regularly across a large system.
Common questions
Do I need to turn off my UV steriliser or skimmer before dosing?
No. Easy-Life Fluid Filter Medium can be dosed with UV clarifiers and protein skimmers running as normal.
Why did my water go cloudy after dosing?
That's the product working – it's clumping fine particles so your filter can remove them. Normal aquariums clear in 4 to 16 hours; heavily contaminated tanks can take 48 to 72 hours.
Can I use it every water change?
Yes – Easy-Life recommends dosing at the same 10 mL per 30 L rate whenever you top up or change water, in addition to the regular monthly maintenance dose.
Will it affect my aquarium's pH?
It has no significant effect on pH between 5 and 10. Outside that range it nudges pH by 0.4 to 0.6 towards neutral.
