EcoTech Coral Glue
Sets underwater in ten seconds, so the frag stays where you put it. EcoTech Coral Glue is a pH-neutral cyanoacrylate gel for mounting coral frags to plugs, rock and frag racks. It cures fully in about five minutes and holds corals upright, sideways or upside down, which is what makes it an aquascaping adhesive rather than just a fragging one. Available here in 30 mL, 75 mL and 295 mL.
Key features
- Sets underwater in 10 seconds – mount a frag inside the display without lifting rock out and disturbing the scape.
- Cures in five minutes – at working strength before you have finished tidying up.
- Gel viscosity – the bead stays where it is placed instead of running off the plug, so you can glue sideways and upside down.
- Builds a support structure – a heavier bead fills the gap under an uneven frag base rather than just bonding it.
- pH neutral and triple-distilled – no shift to tank chemistry at fragging volumes, and less of the white bloom cheap hardware-store gels leave on rock.
- Non-clogging pin cap – a set nozzle is how most glue bottles die, and the pin is the fix.
Which size do I need?
| Size | Suits | Rough guide |
|---|---|---|
| 30 mL | Occasional fragging and repairs | A handful of frags a month, or one bottle kept on the shelf for accidents |
| 75 mL | Regular fragging, scaping a new tank | Where most reefers land – enough to scape a display without a part-used bottle going off |
| 295 mL | Frag farms, retailers, large builds | Only worth it if you will use it inside the two-year shelf life |
All three are the same formulation. Nothing changes but the volume.

How to use it
- Blot the frag base and the plug as dry as you practically can. It will set on a wet surface, but it sets harder on a damp one than a dripping one.
- Apply the bead to the plug rather than the coral – coral tissue slimes over glue, a bare plug does not.
- Press the frag on and hold for ten seconds.
- Return it to the tank and leave it undisturbed for five minutes to reach full cure.
For an uneven base, use more glue rather than more pressure. The gel is meant to fill the void and set as a plinth under the coral.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for:
- Mounting SPS and LPS frags to plugs, discs and frag racks
- Gluing plugs and small rock into an established scape
- Reattaching a colony that has come loose
- Bonding underwater, in the display, without draining anything
Not suitable for:
- Load-bearing rockwork. Cured cyanoacrylate is strong but brittle in shear – structural joins want epoxy putty or acrylic rods, with glue only as a tack.
- Slimy soft corals. Leathers and similar shed the mucus layer the bond is stuck to. Rubber-band them to a plug and let them attach themselves.
- Anything on the tank itself. It is not a sealant and has no business near a seam, bulkhead or overflow.
- Flexible surfaces. The cured bond has no give in it.
Safety
- It bonds skin instantly. If fingers stick, soak in warm water and ease them apart – never pull.
- Wear nitrile or polyethylene gloves and eye protection. If it reaches the eye, flush with water and seek medical attention.
- The vapour is irritating – open a window if you are gluing a large batch in a small room.
- Store below 24 °C and out of reach of children.
Care and storage
Wipe the nozzle and recap with the pin seated – that pin is why the bottle still works next month. Store below 24 °C; a hot Queensland garage or a shelf above a sump will cut the two-year shelf life short.
Goes well with
- Frag Plugs – Natural 50pk – the ceramic base most frags end up on.
- Frag Plugs – Purple 50pk – coralline-toned plugs that disappear into an established scape faster.
- EcoTech Marine VorTech MP40QD Wavemaker – worth checking your flow before you glue a fresh frag into a high-flow corner.
- Radion XR15 Gen6 BLUE – stable light over the frag rack while newly mounted cuttings encrust.
Warranty and delivery
As a consumable this carries no manufacturer warranty term. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply regardless, and we will replace a bottle that arrives set or damaged. It is not classified as dangerous goods, so it ships by any method with no freight surcharge or air restriction.
Common questions
Does EcoTech Coral Glue really work underwater?
Yes. EcoTech Coral Glue sets underwater in about ten seconds and fully cures in five minutes. The bond is stronger if you blot the frag base and plug first, but submerged use is what the gel is formulated for.
Why does my glue turn white and fuzzy around the join?
That white bloom is cyanoacrylate curing in contact with water. It is cosmetic, not a failure, and disappears under coralline within a few weeks. Using less glue and pressing more firmly reduces it.
What is the difference between the 30 mL, 75 mL and 295 mL?
Only the volume. All three are the same triple-distilled, pH-neutral gel with the same ten-second underwater set time. Choose on how much you will use inside the two-year shelf life.
Can I use it on soft corals?
Not reliably. Leathers and other mucus-producing softies shed the slime layer the glue is bonded to, and the frag lifts off days later. Band them to a plug instead and let them grip on their own.
Is it safe in a reef tank?
Yes. Coral Glue is pH neutral and triple-distilled, and cures to an inert solid. The volumes used for fragging are far too small to move tank chemistry.
