Mealworms straight from the can. Exo Terra Mealworms are steam-cooked in the can to lock in aroma and nutrition — the staple feeder in its most convenient form, with no colonies to maintain and no escapees in the substrate. Each can holds 34 g, ready to serve straight from the tin.

Key features
  • Steam-cooked, not raw — locks in scent and nutrition, and softens the mealworms so they're easier to digest than live ones.
  • No live insect upkeep — no colony to feed, no escapees loose in the substrate, no smell of a bran tub.
  • Ready to serve — open the can and feed; no gut-loading step required before use.
  • Broad suitability — bearded dragons, geckos, skinks, turtles, amphibians and insectivorous birds.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable as an occasional treat or diet enrichment for bearded dragons, geckos, skinks, turtles, frogs and other insectivorous reptiles, amphibians and birds.
  • Not a nutritionally complete staple diet on its own — like all mealworms, the calcium-to-phosphorus ratio is naturally poor, so use alongside a calcium-dusted staple feeder rather than as the only food offered.
Care and feeding

Feed one or two mealworms as part of a varied diet, or offer from a shallow dish, or wiggle on feeding tongs to trigger a hunting response. Discard any uneaten portion after 24 hours. Refrigerate after opening.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Shelf-stable while sealed; check the best-before date and batch code printed on the base of the can.

Common questions

Can I feed these as a staple diet?

No. Mealworms are naturally low in calcium relative to phosphorus, so they work best as a treat or feeding-response trigger alongside a calcium-dusted staple, not as the only food offered.

Do I need to refrigerate the can before opening?

No — refrigerate only after opening, and discard any leftover mealworms within 24 hours.

Will my reptile recognise these as food if they're used to live mealworms?

Most animals take to canned mealworms readily, especially if offered with feeding tongs to mimic movement. Some individuals need a few tries before they accept a non-moving feeder.
