Suitable for tropical and sub-tropical reptiles that live in shaded forest habitats. Not the right choice for desert species that bask in full sun; Exo Terra makes the UVB150 and UVB200 tubes for those. It is not a heat source, so pair it with a suitable basking lamp.

A fluorescent tube can keep lighting after its UVB output has dropped, so replace it on the schedule given on the packaging rather than waiting for it to fail. Glass, acrylic and fine mesh between the tube and the animal block part of the UVB, so mount it where it has a clear path to the basking area. Give the animal shaded areas it can retreat to, away from the tube.

Switch off and let the tube cool before changing it, and avoid looking straight at the lit tube.
