This is the Fluval Ammonia Remover insert made for the AquaClear 20 and AquaClear 30 power filters, sold as a pack of three. It's a natural zeolite (clinoptilolite) ion-exchange media that binds ammonia and nitrite as water passes through it – the two readings that spike hardest in a new tank, an overstocked tank, or right after a fish dies unnoticed. It suits freshwater tanks running an AquaClear 20 or 30 that need extra insurance against an ammonia spike, not general-purpose everyday filtration.

It is sized for the AC20/30 media basket only. The AquaClear 50, 70 and 110 take their own larger ammonia-remover inserts – check the model printed on your filter body before ordering.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater AquaClear 20 and 30 owners managing a new tank, an overstocked tank, or a known ammonia spike. Not suitable for marine or reef tanks – this is a freshwater-only ion-exchange media. Not a substitute for regular water changes or for cycling a new filter properly.
Care and maintenance
Rinse briefly before first use, then run it for four weeks and replace. It is not rechargeable – once the zeolite is saturated with ammonium it stops adsorbing more, so leaving an old insert in place longer than four weeks does nothing.
Safety
Freshwater use only. Fluval does not publish an ammonia-adsorption capacity figure for this insert, so treat it as a support measure alongside – not instead of – water testing and water changes.

Common questions
Can I use this in a saltwater or reef tank?
No. This insert is a freshwater-only ion-exchange zeolite. It is not rated for marine or reef use.
Does it fit the AquaClear 50?
No. The AC50 takes a larger, differently sized ammonia-remover insert. This pack is cut for the AC20 and AC30 basket only.
How long does each insert last?
Fluval's guidance is four weeks per insert. It is single-use – the zeolite doesn't regenerate once it's absorbed as much ammonium as it can hold.
Do I need this for a normal, established tank?
Not usually. It's aimed at situations where ammonia is a known risk – new setups, overstocked tanks, or after a filter crash – rather than everyday filtration.
Can I run it alongside carbon or Biomax in the same basket?
Yes. The AC20/30 basket has room for a bottom foam stage plus two chemical/biological media on top, so this can run alongside Clear-Carb or Biomax.
