Fluval C2 Hang On Filter Impeller Assembly
The part that actually moves the water – genuine replacement impeller for the Fluval C2. If the C2's motor is running but flow has dropped off or gone noisy, a worn or jammed impeller is the most common cause, and this assembly is the fix.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part – catalogue number A-20297, the exact impeller and shaft assembly the C2 was built with.
- Complete assembly – impeller, shaft and cover in one part, not just the fan.
- Restores rated flow – a worn impeller is the usual reason a C2's flow drops well below its 400 L/h rating even with clean media.
Specifications

| Not compatible with | Fluval C3 (uses A-20298) or C4 (uses A-20299) |
Will it fit my filter?
This impeller is machined for the C2's motor housing specifically. The C3 and C4 use their own impeller assemblies (A-20298 and A-20299) that are a different size – they will not run correctly in a C2, and this one will not fit a C3 or C4.

Care and maintenance
Fluval's own guidance is to check the impeller and seal ring monthly for grit or hair build-up, which is the usual cause of noise or reduced flow, and to clean or replace as needed.
Safety
Unplug the filter before opening the impeller housing. Handle the shaft carefully – it's a small precision part and the ceramic shaft can chip if dropped.

Common questions
How do I know if I need a new impeller rather than just a clean?
Try cleaning the existing impeller and shaft first – grit or hair is the most common cause of noise or weak flow. Replace it if it's cracked, the shaft is worn, or cleaning doesn't restore normal flow.
Is this the whole impeller or just the fan blade?
It's the complete assembly – impeller, shaft and cover – not a single component.
Will the C3's impeller (A-20298) fit my C2?
No – A-20298 is sized for the C3. Use A-20297 for the C2.
