The fine-polishing stage that finishes what the coarse foam pad starts. This is the Fluval C2's stage-two media: one side open-cell foam, the other a denser polyester layer that traps the finer particles the first pad lets through.

Will it fit my filter?
Sized for the C2 chamber. The C3 version is part 14009 and the C4 version is part 14010 – visually similar but a different footprint, so check your filter model before ordering.

Care and maintenance
Rinse in tank water rather than tap water to protect the bacteria colonising the media. Expect to replace it roughly every 2–3 months on Fluval's general guidance, sooner if the tank is heavily stocked or the pad stays compressed after rinsing.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for the Fluval C2 in freshwater or marine use. Not compatible with the C3 or C4, despite the similar appearance.

Common questions
What's the difference between this and the plain foam pad?
The plain foam pad (14005) is stage 1 – coarse and open, for large debris. This poly/foam pad (14008) is stage 2, with a denser polyester face that polishes out the finer particles the first pad misses.
Do I need both?
Yes – the C2's five-stage design uses both mechanical pads in sequence before water reaches the carbon and biological stages.
Will this fit my C4?
No – order part 14010 for the C4. This one (14008) is sized for the C2 only.
