Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Poly/Foam Pad
Two mechanical filtration stages built into one pad, made for the Fluval C4 only. The poly/foam pad sits downstream of the coarse foam pre-filter in a Fluval C4, combining a porous foam face that catches larger particles with a denser polyester face that traps fine debris – effectively two mechanical stages in a single piece of media.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part 14010 – the correct size and stage for the C4's second mechanical compartment.
- Sold as a 3-pack – enough for several media changes without reordering every month.
- Two-sided design – porous foam traps larger particles, the denser polyester layer catches the fine debris the foam misses.
- Protects downstream media – polishing the water before it reaches the carbon and biological stages keeps those media working on chemistry and biology rather than clogging on silt.
Does this fit my filter?
| Filter | Fits |
|---|---|
| Fluval C4 | Yes – this is the correct poly/foam pad |
| Fluval C2 / Fluval C3 | No – different media sizing, not interchangeable |
What's included
Three poly/foam pads, sized for the C4's second mechanical media compartment.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for Fluval C4 hang-on power filters, freshwater or marine.
- Not suitable for Fluval C2 or C3 filters.
Care and maintenance
Replace rather than rinse once the pad visibly discolours and flow noticeably slows – the fine polyester side clogs faster than the coarse foam pre-filter and doesn't recover fully with rinsing the way coarser foam does.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's standard parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel freight.
Common questions
What's the difference between the foam pad and the poly/foam pad?
The foam pad is the coarse first-stage pre-filter. This poly/foam pad sits after it and adds a finer polyester layer, giving a second, finer mechanical stage in the same media slot.
How many should I keep on hand?
One 3-pack typically covers several months of routine changes, depending on bioload and how often you're topping up mechanical media.
Can I rinse and reuse this pad?
The foam side can be rinsed a few times, but once the polyester face clogs and discolours it's more effective to replace it than keep rinsing.
