Fluval EDGE Foam & Biomax Kit
A genuine foam and BioMax renewal kit that restores mechanical and biological filtration in the Fluval EDGE power filter. The kit pairs a fitted foam pad, which traps floating debris before it reaches the pump, with BioMax ceramic rings, which give beneficial bacteria somewhere to colonise. Together they cover the two filtration stages the EDGE's compact internal filter relies on.
Key features
- Foam pad – mechanical stage, traps particles and debris before they reach the impeller.
- BioMax ceramic rings – biological stage, high surface area for beneficial bacteria that break down fish waste.
- Purpose-fitted – sized specifically for the EDGE power filter housing, no trimming required.
- Two-stage renewal in one pack – restocks both media types in a single order instead of buying them separately.

Will it fit my filter?
This kit is made for the internal power filter built into the Fluval EDGE aquarium kit, in both the 6 US Gal (23 L) and 12 US Gal (46 L) sizes. It is not sized for Fluval's other internal or canister filter ranges.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the foam pad in removed tank water, not tap water, to protect the bacteria living on it – tap water's chlorine or chloramine will kill them. Replace the foam once it's compacted, torn or won't rinse clean. Renew BioMax gradually rather than all at once, so the filter keeps an established bacterial colony while the new media matures.
Goes well with
Pair with the Fluval EDGE Pre-Filter Sponge, which sits ahead of this media and protects it – and the impeller – from larger debris and fry.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard parcel delivery Australia-wide.
Common questions
How often should I replace this kit?
Fluval doesn't publish a fixed interval – replace the foam when it's compacted or torn, and top up BioMax gradually as it breaks down, rather than on a set schedule.
Should I rinse the media in tap water?
No. Rinse in water taken from the aquarium during a water change, so you don't kill the bacteria living in the BioMax and foam.
Does this fit the original EDGE and the EDGE 2.0?
Yes, it fits both the 6 US Gal (23 L) and 12 US Gal (46 L) Fluval EDGE kits, which share the same internal filter.
