Fluval FX5/FX6 Giant Motor Seal Ring
The seal that keeps your FX5 or FX6 motor housing dry. This is the genuine Fluval motor seal ring – Fluval part number A20207, sold on this site under the Hagen part code PF104e – for the Fluval FX5 and FX6 canister filters. It sits inside the motor housing and stops water reaching the electrics. It's the single most common part to replace at a service, and the cheapest insurance against a wet cabinet.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval part – made to the original fit, not a generic reproduction.
- Direct-fit replacement – clips into the motor housing in the same position as the original.
- Fresh and marine safe – no difference in the seal material between fresh and saltwater use.
- Cheap to keep as a spare – worth having on hand before a service, not after a leak.

Will it fit my filter?
This seal ring fits the Fluval FX5 and the Fluval FX6 canister filter, sealing the motor housing against the impeller chamber. It is a different part to the seal ring used in the smaller Fluval FX4. Check the model printed on your filter's motor housing lid before ordering if you're not sure which canister you own.
What's included
- 1 x genuine Fluval motor seal ring
This part does not include the impeller, motor unit or any other O-rings. For the full power-end replacement, see the Fluval FX5/FX6 motor unit with impeller and O-ring.
Fitting it
Replacing the seal ring means opening the motor housing, which most owners can do with the tools already supplied with the filter. Lightly lubricate the new seal with an aquarium-safe silicone grease before refitting – a dry seal pinches on assembly and fails early. Replace this seal whenever the motor housing is opened for service, not only once it's visibly worn.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for any Fluval FX5 or FX6 running fresh or marine water. Not suitable for the Fluval FX4, FX2, or any non-Fluval canister filter.
Goes well with
- Fluval FX5/FX6 motor unit with impeller and O-ring – the full power-end replacement, already includes a seal ring.
- Fluval FX5/FX6 impeller assembly – the other common wear item opened up at the same service.
- Fluval FX5/FX6 output nozzle – worth checking for cracks while the filter is already open.
Warranty and delivery

Common questions
How do I know if my FX5 or FX6 needs a new seal ring?
Water pooling in or around the base of the motor housing after cleaning is the usual sign. A seal that has gone hard or flat won't compress properly even if it looks intact.
Can I reuse the old seal ring after cleaning it?
You can, but seals harden with age and a hardened seal is more likely to leak. Treat this as a routine service item rather than a one-time fix.
Will this seal ring fit my Fluval FX4?
No. The FX4 uses a different motor seal ring, Fluval part A20211.
Do I need any special tools to fit it?
No – the motor housing opens with the fasteners already fitted to the filter.
