Mag-Float Magnetic Glass Cleaner
Wipe algae off the inside of the glass without getting your hands wet. The Mag-Float Magnetic Glass Cleaner pairs an outer floating handle with an inner magnetic scraper pad, so you drag algae off the inside of the glass just by moving the handle across the outside. It's sold in three sizes rated to different glass thicknesses.
Key features
- Strong magnetic coupling – the inner scraper tracks the outer handle through the glass, even one-handed.
- Floats if it comes apart – the handle floats to the surface instead of sinking out of reach.
- Scraper blade, not a pad – cuts through stubborn algae film that a soft pad alone will not shift.
- Works in fresh or saltwater – no difference in operation between the two.
- Three sizes for three glass thicknesses – pick the one rated for your tank, not one that's merely close.
Specifications
| Size | Maximum glass thickness | Acrylic safe |
|---|---|---|
| Long | Up to 10mm | No – glass only |
| Large | Up to 16mm | No – glass only |
| Large+ | Up to 20mm | No – glass only |
Will it fit my tank?
Match the size to your glass thickness, not your tank volume – a big tank can still run thin glass on the panels, and a small tank can run thick glass. Measure the pane the cleaner will ride on and choose the size rated at or above that thickness. Going too big for thin glass makes the magnet harder to control; going too small for thick glass weakens the magnetic grip and the scraper can slip.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: glass aquariums, fresh or saltwater, at or under the rated thickness for the size you buy.
- Not suitable for: acrylic tanks. All three sizes use a scraper blade, which will scratch acrylic. If your tank is acrylic, look for a pad-style magnetic cleaner instead – this is not it.
Care and maintenance
- Rinse grit off the scraper blade after use – trapped sand or gravel between the pad and the glass is what causes scratching, not the magnet itself.
- Replace the scraper blade once it stops cutting cleanly rather than pressing harder, which raises the risk of marking the glass.
Safety
These are strong neodymium magnets. Keep them away from pacemakers and other implanted medical devices, and away from credit cards, hard drives and other magnetic media. Take care with fingers when separating the two halves.
Goes well with
- A genuine Mag-Float replacement scraper blade, so a worn edge doesn't tempt you to scrape harder than you should
- An algae scraper or pad for corners and edges the magnet can't reach
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty against faulty parts, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships at standard parcel rates.
Common questions
Can I use this on an acrylic tank?
No. All three sizes use a scraper blade designed for glass, and that blade will scratch acrylic. Use a pad-style acrylic-safe cleaner instead.
Which size do I need?
Measure the glass thickness of the panel you'll be cleaning and choose the size rated at or above that figure – Long to 10mm, Large to 16mm, or Large+ to 20mm.
Does it work in saltwater?
Yes, all three sizes are rated for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums.
What happens if the two halves separate underwater?
The outer handle floats, so it rises to the surface where you can retrieve it rather than sinking out of reach.
Can I buy a replacement scraper blade instead of a whole new cleaner?
Yes – genuine Mag-Float replacement scraper blades are sold separately for the Large/Large+ and Small/Long sizes.
