Ocean Nutrition Veggie Favourites

A frozen vegetable-and-algae blend built for grazing herbivores that need more roughage than a flake or pellet gives them. Ocean Nutrition Veggie Favourites binds algae, garden vegetables, spirulina and garlic with a light protein boost from copepods, krill and fish, in a cube that holds its shape even after it's thawed. It's aimed at African cichlids, catfish, plecos and livebearers – grazing fish that spend real time picking at food rather than snatching it once.

Key features
  • Vegetable and algae base – spirulina for colour and growth, garlic for immune support, bound with fibre-rich vegetable content.
  • Light protein enrichment – copepods, krill and fish proteins added on top of the vegetable base.
  • Holds its shape – the cube stays intact after thawing, which suits grazing and bottom-feeding fish that return to a piece of food repeatedly.
  • 100 g blister pack – cube-form, portioned for easy use straight from the freezer.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for herbivorous and omnivorous freshwater grazers – African cichlids, catfish and loricariids (plecos), and livebearers.

Not confirmed by the manufacturer as a marine herbivore food – Ocean Nutrition sells dedicated marine formulas (Angel Formula, Pygmy Angel Formula) for tangs and marine angelfish, and Veggie Favourites isn't marketed as one of them. If you're feeding a marine herbivore, those are the better-documented choice.

Ingredients

Algae, vegetables, copepods, krill, fish.

Thawing and feeding

Ocean Nutrition's frozen range is rinsed before it's flash-frozen, so a cube can go straight into the tank – it defrosts quickly in the water and spreads through the tank as it does. If you'd rather thaw it first, drop the portion into a small container of tank water until it softens, then feed it.

Feed 2 to 5 times a day, offering only what your fish will finish within 5 minutes. Once a portion has thawed, use it – don't refreeze it.

Storage

Keep frozen until use. As with any frozen aquarium food, treat it as perishable once thawed: a portion left out and not eaten can spoil quickly and shouldn't go back in the freezer.

Warranty and delivery

Sold with the consumer guarantees that apply under Australian Consumer Law.

Frozen food is pick up only from our North Lakes store, because a pack that thaws on the way cannot be refrozen.

Common questions

Can I feed Veggie Favourites to my marine tang?

Ocean Nutrition doesn't list marine tangs or angelfish as a target species for this formula – it's positioned for freshwater grazers such as African cichlids, catfish and livebearers. For marine herbivores, look at Ocean Nutrition's dedicated Angel Formula range instead.

Do I need to thaw the cube before feeding it?

No – the cubes are rinsed before freezing and can go straight into the tank, where they thaw quickly in the water. Pre-thawing in a small cup of tank water is also fine if you prefer.

Can I refreeze a cube once it's thawed?

No – once a portion has thawed, feed it or discard it. Refreezing thawed protein-based food risks spoilage.

Will this cloud my water?

The cube holds its shape well after thawing, which helps keep loose particles to a minimum, but as with any frozen food, remove anything uneaten after a few minutes.
