Red Sea Reefer 170 G2 Aquarium Sump Valved Downpipe
The genuine valved downpipe for a Reefer 170 G2 or 200 G2. This is Red Sea's factory sump valved downpipe (part 42216G2), fitting both the REEFER 170 G2 and REEFER 200 G2. Its built-in valve is what lets you fine-tune overflow flow for silent running and shut it off cleanly for maintenance.
Key features
- Genuine Red Sea part 42216G2 – factory-correct fit for the REEFER 170 G2 and REEFER 200 G2 overflow.
- Integrated shut-off valve – tune flow for a silent siphon, or close it off to service the sump without draining the display.
- Direct-fit replacement – seats exactly where the original valved downpipe sat.

Will it fit my tank?
This valved downpipe is shared across the REEFER 170 G2 and REEFER 200 G2 – confirmed genuine fitment for both. It is not the part for the original (non-G2) REEFER 170, or for other REEFER sizes outside the 170 G2/200 G2 pairing. Check your cabinet's model plate or purchase documentation for the exact generation before ordering.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: REEFER 170 G2 and REEFER 200 G2 owners replacing a worn valve, a downpipe that won't hold its flow setting, or a cracked housing.
- Not suitable for: the original (G1) REEFER 170, or REEFER sizes outside the 170 G2/200 G2 pairing.
Care and maintenance
Retune the valve gradually after fitting – small adjustments make large changes to overflow noise. If the valve becomes stiff or won't hold a setting, that's usually the seal wearing rather than the whole part failing, but a replacement downpipe resolves both.
Warranty and delivery
Covered against manufacturing defects in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight – a compact plumbing part with no special handling requirements.
Common questions
Does this fit the original Reefer 170, not just the G2?
No – this part is specific to the G2 generation. The original REEFER 170 uses a different valved downpipe. Check your cabinet or purchase documentation for the "G2" designation before ordering.
What does the valve actually do?
It lets you throttle flow through the downpipe, which is how a Herbie-style overflow is tuned for near-silent operation. Closing it fully also lets you isolate the downpipe for sump maintenance without draining the display.
My overflow has gone loud – is this the fix?
It's one of the most common causes. If the valve setting hasn't changed but the noise has, a worn seal or a partial blockage inside the downpipe is often the reason, and a replacement resolves both.
