A 900-litre reef platform that ships as tank, cabinet and sump only – you add the equipment. The Red Sea Reefer 3XL900 is a 200 × 65 × 65 cm rimless display in 19 mm ultra-clear glass, built around Red Sea's regulated silent overflow and matched with a full marine sump and a reinforced black cabinet. It's the display and plumbing platform a large reef or FOWLR system gets built on – not a complete kit, so plan your return pump, skimmer, heater and lighting budget alongside it.

Weight and floor loading
Red Sea does not publish an empty or filled weight for the 3XL900. What we can tell you: at roughly 900 L total system volume, the water alone weighs in the order of 900 kg, before the glass, sump contents, cabinet, rock and sand are added. A filled 3XL900 is well over a tonne resting on the floor beneath it. Have a structural engineer or your builder confirm the floor and its supporting joists are rated for a sustained point load of this size before installing – this matters most on a timber suspended floor, and matters far less on a concrete slab.
Which Reefer size do I need?
The 3XL900 sits at the top of Red Sea's Reefer range by footprint and volume. If 200 cm is more tank than your space allows, Red Sea's smaller Reefer and Reefer XL sizes use the same overall design language – sump platform, regulated overflow and the option to add ReefATO+ – at a smaller footprint and lower total volume. Ask us for a size comparison if you're deciding between the 3XL900 and a smaller Reefer.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: established reef keepers building a large mixed or SPS-capable system, and anyone wanting Red Sea's regulated overflow and sump platform at 900 L scale.
- Not suitable for: anyone wanting a plug-and-play complete system straight out of the box – you'll need to select and fit a return pump, skimmer, heater and lighting before this tank can be stocked.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. This is an oversized, heavy item – delivery is a special-order freight item and typically needs two-person or dock delivery. We'll confirm freight and site access requirements with you before dispatch.
Common questions
Does the 3XL900 include a return pump or skimmer?
No. It ships as tank, sump, plumbing and cabinet, with ReefATO+ auto top-off standard. Return pump, skimmer, heater and lighting are all separate purchases.
What's the difference between a Reefer and a MAX system?
A MAX is Red Sea's complete system – it bundles filtration and lighting equipment in the box. A Reefer, including this 3XL900, is the display-and-plumbing platform on its own, so you choose your own equipment.
Will my floor take the weight?
At around 900 L total system volume, the water alone is in the order of 900 kg before cabinet, glass, rock and sand are added – get your floor checked by a professional before installing, especially on an upper floor or a timber frame.
Does it come with lighting?
Not in this configuration. Ask us before ordering if you'd like us to check whether a Deluxe, lighting-bundled configuration is available for this size.
