Red Sea Reefer G2+ 525 Complete System white - 525L

Serious reef volume without a shopping list of pre-fitted extras. The Red Sea Reefer G2+ 525 is a 540 L reef aquarium system built around a 150 × 60 cm display: rimless ultra-clear glass on a matching white cabinet, with Red Sea's REEF-SPEC sump, silent overflow and ReefATO+ automatic top-off already fitted. It ships as tank, cabinet, sump and plumbing — you add the lighting, protein skimmer and return pump that suit the reef you're actually building.

Key features
  • 423 L of display water in a 150 cm run — enough length to aquascape distinct zones rather than one central feature.
  • Rimless, ultra-clear beveled-edge glass, 15 mm on every face, for a clean sightline the full width of the tank.
  • 116 L REEF-SPEC sump with a bubble trap sponge, a mechanical filtration compartment (225-micron filter bags and media cups) and an adjustable-height skimmer chamber.
  • ReefATO+ automatic top-off — digital temperature monitoring, an audible leak alarm and a titanium multi-input probe, run from the ReefBeat app.
  • Silent downflow system with an enlarged rectangular inlet and a high-precision valve, quieter than a standard overflow pipe.
  • Dual side return outlets and full internal plumbing with metric and US-sized bulkhead connectors.
  • Aluminium cabinet supports on this size and above, under a self-assembly marine-spec laminated cabinet with adjustable feet.

Will it fit? Floor loading

The Reefer G2+ 525 has a 150 × 60 cm footprint (0.90 m²) and weighs approximately 850 kg fully filled, per Red Sea's own published system weight. Spread over its footprint, that works out to roughly 944 kg per square metre directly under the cabinet — a figure calculated from Red Sea's published weight and footprint, not one Red Sea states directly. At this weight, a slab-on-ground floor is the safer default; if you're placing it upstairs or on a suspended timber floor, get a builder or structural engineer to confirm the floor is rated for it, and position it over joists rather than mid-span.

Reefer G2+ Complete System vs Reefer MAX

Red Sea sells this platform two ways. The Complete System — what this listing is — is the tank, cabinet, sump and plumbing, ready for you to fit your own lighting, skimmer and pump. The Reefer MAX adds Red Sea's own ReefLED lighting, a REEFER DC protein skimmer and a return pump, pre-matched to the tank, at a higher price. Neither is "better" — MAX suits a plug-and-play build on Red Sea's own equipment; the Complete System suits a build using equipment you already own or prefer from other brands.

Which Reefer G2+ do I need?

All three sizes share the same sump design, ReefATO+ system and silent overflow — the difference is display volume, footprint and the floor loading that comes with it. The 525 sits in the middle of the range: noticeably more aquascaping length than the 425, without the 65 cm depth and near-tonne filled weight of the 625.

Model Footprint Display volume Total volume Sump volume Glass (front/side/bottom) Filled weight

Reefer G2+ 525 150 × 60 cm 423 L 540 L 116 L 15 / 15 / 15 mm 850 kg
Reefer G2+ 625 150 × 65 cm 497 L 620 L 123 L 19 / 19 / 15 mm 930 kg
Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for an experienced reefer who wants real aquascaping length and is choosing their own lighting, skimmer and return pump rather than taking Red Sea's bundled set. Suitable as the step up from a nano or all-in-one once bioload and coral collection have outgrown them. Not suitable if you'd rather buy one matched package and be done — the Reefer MAX 525 does that. Not suitable for a room without a confirmed floor rating; at 850 kg filled this is not a tank to place on a whim.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by a Red Sea manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Red Sea's own published warranty terms are inconsistent across its literature — its operation manual states 24 months standard with a further 12 months on the glass aquarium if registered, while its own warranty registration page lists Australia as eligible for a longer extended term. We're confirming the current Australian figure with Red Sea directly; contact us before purchase if the exact term matters to your decision. The cabinet is self-assembly. Given the size and filled weight of this system, arrange help to move and position it, and confirm your delivery access (stairs, doorway width) before ordering.

Goes well with

A DC return pump sized to the sump's flow and your plumbing's head height, a protein skimmer rated for a 525-scale bioload, and enough Red Sea lighting coverage for a 150 cm run — the same choices the Reefer MAX bundles in for you, bought separately here to suit your preferences and budget.

Common questions

Does the Reefer G2+ 525 include lighting, a skimmer or a return pump?

No. This is the Complete System: tank, cabinet, sump, plumbing and the ReefATO+ auto top-off. Lighting, a protein skimmer and a return pump are all sold separately and fitted after purchase.

What's the difference between this and the Reefer MAX 525?

The Reefer MAX 525 is the same tank, cabinet, sump and plumbing with Red Sea's own ReefLED lighting, a REEFER DC skimmer and a return pump already fitted, at a higher price. This Complete System gives you the same foundation and lets you choose your own equipment.

How many lights will a 150 cm tank need?

Most reefers run two fixtures across a 150 cm span rather than one, for even coverage edge to edge. Check your chosen light's rated coverage width against the 150 cm footprint before buying.

Do I need to worry about floor loading?

Yes. At roughly 850 kg filled over a 0.90 m² footprint, that's around 944 kg/m² directly beneath the cabinet — have a builder or engineer confirm your floor can carry it before installing upstairs or on an older timber-frame floor.

Can I fit any brand of return pump and lighting?

Yes — the plumbing uses standard metric and US-sized bulkhead connectors and the cabinet has an open equipment area, so it isn't locked to Red Sea's own MAX equipment. Match pump flow to your sump's throughput and head height, and check your chosen light's mounting method against the tank's rimless top edge.
