Red Sea REEFER G3 Aquarium System 250
A 245-litre reef system that ships without a pump. The Red Sea REEFER 250 G3 pairs a 203-litre rimless display aquarium with a 42-litre glass sump, a marine-spec cabinet and pre-glued plumbing – the wider, shallower sibling of the REEFER 200 G3, built on the same third-generation drilled overflow and cabinet engineering. It ships with the ReefATO+ auto top-off fitted, but without a return pump, skimmer or lighting.
What's included
- 203 L rimless display aquarium in ultra-clear glass, roughly 90 × 50 × 53 cm
- 42 L glass sump with pre-glued plumbing
- Marine-spec cabinet, available in black or white
- Silent drilled overflow
- ReefATO+ auto top-off system, with built-in leak and temperature sensors
Not included
- Return pump
- Protein skimmer (Red Sea's REEFER Protein Skimmer and ReefMat filter roller are sold separately)
- Circulation pumps or wavemakers
- Lighting
- Live rock, sand, substrate or salt
Don't confuse this with the REEFER MAX 250 G3, which bundles ReefLED lighting, a DC return pump, a ReefMat filter roller and a protein skimmer into the same tank and sump as a plug-and-play package. This listing is the shell, sump, cabinet and ATO only – you choose and add the rest.

Which REEFER G3 do I need?
| Model | Display size (L × W × H, approx.) | Total system volume | Display volume | Sump volume | Glass |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| REEFER 200 G3 | 60 × 57 × 53 cm | 200 L | 158 L | 42 L | ~10 mm front/base, ~12 mm sides |
| REEFER 250 G3 | 90 × 50 × 53 cm | 245 L | 203 L | 42 L | ~12 mm |
The 250 is longer and shallower front-to-back than the 200; the 200 has the deeper footprint. Pick on room shape as much as litres.
Floor loading
Water alone in a full 250 accounts for roughly 245 kg, before the glass, cabinet, sump, rock and substrate are added. Red Sea does not publish a total filled weight for this model. That's over the 200 L point where floor loading is worth a second thought – check your floor rating if the tank is going upstairs or on a raised deck.
Setting it up
The 250 is plumbed and drilled at the factory, so assembly is largely mechanical: cabinet, aquarium, sump, then plumbing. You'll still need to choose and fit a return pump sized to your plumbing run, a nano-to-mid skimmer or a ReefMat roller filter, and lighting sized to the tank's 90 cm span and 53 cm depth.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: a first serious reef tank, or a mid-size upgrade for a keeper who wants to choose their own pump, skimmer and lighting rather than take a bundled set
- Not suitable for: anyone who wants everything running on day one – for that, the REEFER MAX 250 G3 is the better starting point
Care and maintenance
The sump is designed for regular filter sock or media changes. Check the ReefATO+ probe periodically for algae growth, which can cause false top-off readings.
Safety
The ReefATO+ unit is mains-powered (240 V, AU plug) and includes a leak detector that cuts the top-off pump if it senses water outside the sump. Run it, and any pump or heater you add, through an RCD-protected circuit.
Goes well with
- A DC return pump sized to your plumbing and head height
- A nano-to-mid protein skimmer or a ReefMat automatic roller filter
- Reef lighting suited to a 90 cm-wide, 53 cm-deep display
- A salt mix and basic reef test kit for cycling and start-up
Warranty and delivery
Red Sea's standard manufacturer warranty applies in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Registering the system with Red Sea extends the warranty to 5 years in Australia. This is glass and heavier than it looks assembled – organise a second pair of hands to receive and position it.
Common questions
Does the REEFER 250 G3 come with a return pump?
No. It includes the aquarium, sump, cabinet, plumbing and ReefATO+ auto top-off. The return pump is chosen and purchased separately.
What's the difference between this and the REEFER MAX 250 G3?
The MAX version is a plug-and-play package: it adds ReefLED lighting, a DC return pump, a ReefMat filter roller and a protein skimmer to the same tank and sump. This listing is the shell, sump, cabinet and ATO only.
Is the ReefATO+ auto top-off included?
Yes – it's fitted as standard across the REEFER G3 range, including this base system.
What cabinet colours are available?
Black or white marine-spec cabinets are both available on this model.
Is lighting included?
No. Lighting is sold separately so you can size and budget it for the coral you're planning to keep.
