Red Sea Reefer Max Peninsula 500 G3+
A 519 L peninsula reef with the lighting, flow and skimming already fitted. The Red Sea REEFER MAX Peninsula 500 G3+ is the top-tier configuration of Red Sea's Peninsula 500: a 125 x 63.5 x 60 cm display designed for a three-sided view, on a matching cabinet, with ReefLED G2 lighting, ReefWave circulation, a ReefRun return pump, protein skimmer and a filter roller already plumbed in. It suits reefers who want the larger 500-class display volume in an island or divider footprint rather than a wall-backed rectangle.
Key features
- 519 L total system volume — a 412 L display over a 106.6 L sump, giving real dosing and filtration headroom for a large mixed or SPS reef.
- Twin ReefLED G2 170 lighting — around 340 W nominal combined, run and scheduled from the Red Sea ReefBeat app.
- Twin ReefWave 45 linear pumps — rated up to 15,000 L/h combined at the pump face, spread across the peninsula's open sides.
- ReefRun G2 8000 return pump — a 4,100–8,300 L/h adjustable-flow DC pump feeding the plumbed overflow.
- RSK DC 600 protein skimmer — rated at 1,500 L/h water flow and 750 L/h air flow at the pump.
- ReefMat 1200 automatic filter roller — mechanical filtration on a roll rather than a weekly sock change.
- 15 mm Euro-brace glass on the front, sides, back and bottom for a large-format display at this volume.

This is the MAX tier, not the bare Peninsula 500 G3+: the lighting, return pump, gyre flow, skimmer and filter roller are already fitted. The standard (non-MAX) Peninsula 500 G3+ ships as the aquarium, cabinet and plumbed sump only. Check which tier you're comparing before assuming a cheaper listing includes the same equipment.

Will it fit my space?
Check clearance on both open ends as well as the front — a peninsula display is meant to be viewed and walked around, and the pendant-style lighting needs headroom rather than a wall-mounted arm's reach. At 519 L this is a floor-loading item: water alone weighs roughly 519 kg, before the glass, cabinet, rock and substrate are added, so the true filled weight is higher again. Red Sea does not publish a filled weight for this model — get the floor checked by a builder or engineer before installing it anywhere other than a slab or a well-supported ground floor.
Performance
The ReefRun G2 8000's published range is 4,100–8,300 L/h — that's the adjustable window at the pump, not the delivered flow once it's pushing water up through the drain plumbing and skimmer inlet. Red Sea has not published a head-loss curve for this pump, so treat the upper figure as a best case. The RSK DC 600 skimmer's 1,500 L/h water flow rating is a single figure rather than a bioload-graded rating; Red Sea has not published separate light, medium and heavy bioload figures for this model, so size it with margin if you're running a heavily stocked mixed reef.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to reefers wanting a large-volume peninsula display — 519 L is a serious reef, not an entry system — in a room where a three-sided view is the point. Not suited to a first marine tank, given the absence of heating, dosing and RO/DI provision, or to a wall-backed placement where the extra front-to-back depth isn't needed.
Care and maintenance
ReefMat roll changes replace weekly sock washing; skimmer cup emptying and pump impeller cleaning remain routine tasks. At this volume, budget for a proportionally larger top-up and dosing routine than a standard-size Reefer.
Safety
Run all included equipment through an RCD-protected circuit with drip loops on every cable entering the cabinet. Check the drain valve setting after any plumbing disturbance — an incorrectly set valve can cause overflow noise or, in a worst case, a sump overflow.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Red Sea's manufacturer warranty, additional to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. This is an oversized, heavy item delivered on a pallet — confirm doorway and stair clearance and expect a two-person delivery.
Common questions
What's the difference between the standard Peninsula 500 G3+ and the MAX?
The standard tier is the aquarium, cabinet and plumbed sump only. The MAX adds lighting, return pump, gyre circulation, skimmer and filter roller, fitted and ready to run.
Does this package include an auto top-off unit?
Check the specific listing — ReefATO+ inclusion has varied across Peninsula 500 MAX package runs. Ask us to confirm before ordering if it isn't stated on the listing you're viewing.
Is the floor under a 519 L tank a real concern?
Yes — it's worth checking with a builder or engineer, particularly on an upper floor. Red Sea doesn't publish a filled weight for this model; water alone is around 519 kg before cabinet, glass, rock and sand.
Do I still need a heater?
Yes, heating isn't included in any Peninsula 500 package tier.
What flow does the return pump actually deliver once it's plumbed in?
Less than the 8,300 L/h headline figure, which is measured at zero head. Red Sea hasn't published a curve for this pump; ask us for the manufacturer's data if you're planning turnover around a delivered figure rather than the rated one.
