Reef Pure Dual Media Reactor
Runs GFO or carbon in two chambers so media does its job properly. The Reef Pure Dual Media Reactor is a twin-chamber canister that fluidises loose filter media – GFO, activated carbon, or both at once, one in each chamber – so it works at full efficiency instead of channelling or clumping in a bag. It needs a submersible feed pump (sold separately) to drive water through, and connects via 12 mm quick-connect fittings on 1/2" ports.
Key features
- Two independent chambers – run GFO and carbon at the same time, each in its own cartridge.
- Even, controlled flow – media sits in a fluidised bed rather than a static bag, so the full volume stays in contact with water.
- Swivelling 90° elbows on the inlet and outlet for tidy plumbing runs.
- Refillable cartridges – reload with your own bulk media rather than buying proprietary pods.

Will it fit my setup?
You'll need a submersible pump to feed it – this reactor doesn't include one. Each chamber takes roughly three cups (about 300 g) of carbon or two cups (about 290 g) of GFO; check your media's bag against those volumes before filling to avoid overpacking.
What's included / Not included
- Included: the dual housing, two refillable cartridges, 3 m of 12 mm rigid tubing, a 12 mm quick-connect ball valve, and swivelling inlet/outlet elbows.
- Not included: filter media and the submersible feed pump – both sold separately.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for: running GFO, activated carbon, or other loose granular media in a sump or external canister setup, in freshwater or marine systems.
- Not suitable for: biopellet media – Reef Pure states this reactor is not designed for biopellets, which need a different (tumbling) flow pattern to avoid clumping.
Care and maintenance
Rinse new media before loading to settle dust. Check and replace GFO or carbon on the schedule appropriate to your media brand – Reef Pure doesn't publish a fixed interval for the reactor itself, since exhaustion depends on which media you run and your tank's bioload.
Goes well with
A submersible feed pump sized to your sump, plus your GFO or activated carbon of choice.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer against faults in materials and workmanship, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard shipping at 3.1 kg and 40 x 21 x 21 cm.
Common questions
Can I run GFO and carbon at the same time?
Yes – that's the point of the dual chamber design. Load one cartridge with GFO and the other with carbon and run them together.
Can I use it for biopellets?
No. Reef Pure states this reactor is not suitable for biopellet media, which needs a tumbling flow rather than the fluidised bed this unit provides.
Do I need a separate pump?
Yes. The reactor has no built-in pump – you'll need a submersible feed pump plumbed to the 12 mm quick-connect inlet.
How much media does each chamber hold?
Reef Pure states roughly three cups (about 300 g) of carbon or two cups (about 290 g) of GFO per cartridge.
