Seachem Reef Dip
Clean up new corals before they go in the display. Seachem Reef Dip is an iodine-based coral disinfectant used to dip new arrivals and freshly cut frags, helping clear surface bacteria, fungus and protozoans before they reach your main tank.
Key features
- Elemental iodine complex that targets surface bacteria, fungus and protozoans on corals.
- Leaves a protective slime coat, keeping iodine in contact with affected tissue and helping guard against reinfection.
- A cheap quarantine step for new corals and frags before they join the display.
- Safe for stony and soft corals, anemones and polyps when used as directed.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
- Suitable for stony corals, soft corals, anemones and polyps as a pre-display quarantine dip.
- Not recommended for Tridacna clams except at a diluted strength, and only at your own risk.
- Remove any coral crabs or shrimp sheltering in the coral before dipping – the dip isn't selective about what it affects.
- Not a treatment for fish, and not a substitute for proper tank quarantine.
Dosage and directions
Mix in a separate container – never dip directly in the display tank. Add 5–10 mL (1–2 capfuls) per 4 L of aquarium water. Dip for 15–30 minutes depending on the severity of the problem; a double dose is acceptable for severe cases. For visible lesions, Seachem's own directions allow applying the concentrate directly to the affected area before dipping. Watch the coral for excessive sliming or an adverse reaction during the dip.
Safety
- Always mix in a separate container, never in the display tank.
- Remove any coral-dwelling crabs or shrimp before dipping.
- Use with caution on Tridacna clams – only at a diluted strength, at your own risk.
- A Safety Data Sheet is available from Seachem for handling and storage guidance.
Care and storage
Keep the cap sealed between uses and store at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.
Goes well with
- Seachem Reef Complete and Seachem Reef Buffer – to have your new coral's home water chemistry ready before it goes in.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the manufacturer's standard warranty against defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Standard freight.
Common questions
Do I need to rinse the coral after dipping?
Seachem's directions don't call for a separate rinse step, but many reefkeepers give the coral a brief swirl in clean saltwater before placing it in the display – it costs nothing and settles any loosened debris.
Can I dip every new coral I buy?
Yes – it's designed as a routine quarantine step for anything new coming into the tank, not just corals with visible problems.
Is it safe for clams?
Only at a diluted strength, and Seachem flags this as a use-at-your-own-risk case rather than a standard application.
How long should I leave the coral in the dip?
15 to 30 minutes, depending on how bad the problem looks. A double dose is fine for severe cases, but always start at the shorter end of the time range.
