Seachem The Bag (13 x 25cm)
The filter bag that won't leak your Purigen. Seachem's The Bag is a welded-seam media bag with a superfine 180-micron polyethylene mesh — fine enough to hold the smallest filtration resins securely, with none of the loose stitching that lets media escape from cheaper bags.
Key features
- Superfine 180-micron mesh holds even the finest resins — Purigen, CupriSorb and similar — without leaking into the tank.
- Welded seams — no stitching to degrade, and fully resistant to bleach, caustics and acids, so it survives media regeneration cycles.
- Resealable locking closure — a plastic zip-tie style seal, no strings to knot or come loose.
- 13 x 25.5 cm, securely holding about 500 mL of media.
- Compatible with the entire Seachem filtration media range, and with most other bagged media.

How to use
Fill loosely with your chosen media, seal the closure, and position the bag where water flow through it is maximised. Don't overpack — media needs room for water to flow around it, and excessive force can stress any seam. Rinse the bag under tap water before first use to clear manufacturing dust.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for fine-grain resins and powders in any canister, sump or hang-on filter — Purigen, CupriSorb, and similarly fine media. Not needed for coarser media like ceramic rings or bio-balls, which are usually loose-filled or held in a coarser bag; the fine mesh restricts flow more than a wider-mesh bag would.
Care and maintenance
The welded seams and chemical resistance mean the bag itself can be reused indefinitely across multiple media changes — replace only the media inside it, not the bag, unless the mesh is visibly torn.
Goes well with
Seachem Purigen, MatrixCarbon or CupriSorb, and the Zip Bag range for coarser media that doesn't need a 180-micron mesh.

Common questions
Will this stop Purigen beads escaping into my tank?
Yes — the 180-micron mesh is fine enough to contain Purigen and similarly small resins, which is what it's designed for.
Can I reuse the bag after washing out old media?
Yes. The welded seams resist bleach, caustics and acids, so the bag can go through a full media regeneration cycle and be reused.
Will it fit in my canister filter's media basket?
At 13 x 25.5 cm it fits inside most canister and hang-on media baskets, but check your filter's basket dimensions before ordering if space is tight.
Does tighter mesh reduce water flow?
Some, compared with a coarse bag — pack it loosely and position it in the highest-flow part of the media chamber to minimise the effect.
