Seachem Zooplankton

A concentrated blend of marine zooplankton for filter-feeding corals. Seachem Reef Zooplankton combines krill, brine shrimp and rotifer in particle sizes from 12.5 to 500 µm, sized to suit LPS and SPS corals, clams and other filter-feeding invertebrates in a reef aquarium. It's dosed straight into the water column as a blanket feed rather than spot-fed to individual polyps, and is stocked here in 250 mL and 500 mL bottles.

Key features
  • Multi-species zooplankton blend – krill (Euphausia Pacifica), Artemia and rotifer cover a range of particle sizes in one bottle.
  • 12.5–500 µm particle range – feeds smaller-mouthed polyps and larger filter feeders from the same dose.
  • Natural astaxanthin – a carotenoid pigment that supports coral colouration alongside nutrition.
  • Blanket-feed dosing – designed to be added with pumps running, not spot-fed with flow paused.
  • Shelf-stable – refrigeration after opening is recommended but not required.

Dosage and directions

Shake before use. Add 5 mL (one capful) per 200 L of tank water, twice weekly, or more often if corals are actively feeding well. Disperse it around the tank with the return pump running so it reaches polyps as a blanket feed – pausing flow to spot-feed concentrates the dose on individual corals and can stress coral tissue rather than help it.

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: reef aquariums with filter-feeding corals (LPS and SPS), clams, feather dusters and other filter-feeding invertebrates.
  • Not suitable for: freshwater aquariums, or as a sole diet for fish – it's formulated for filter feeders, not as a fish flake or pellet replacement.
Goes well with
  • Seachem Phytoplankton – a finer, plant-based blend for clams and smaller filter feeders that Zooplankton's larger particles don't reach.
  • Seachem Reef Complete – trace elements and vitamins that support the same coral growth this feed is targeting.
  • Seachem Reef Plus – a vitamin and amino acid supplement many reefers dose alongside a regular feeding routine.
Warranty and delivery

Seachem Reef Zooplankton doesn't carry a separate manufacturer warranty – as a consumable, it's covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. It ships as a standard parcel item; refrigeration is recommended after opening, but the product doesn't require cold-chain freight to reach you.

Common questions

What's the difference between Reef Zooplankton and Reef Phytoplankton?

Zooplankton is the animal-based blend – krill, brine shrimp and rotifer – sized for corals and larger filter feeders. Phytoplankton is the plant-based blend, with finer particles suited to clams and smaller filter feeders. Many reef keepers dose both on a rotation.

How often should I dose it?

Seachem's directions call for 5 mL per 200 L twice weekly, or more often where corals are visibly feeding well and water quality allows it.

Do I need to turn my pumps off to feed?

No. It's designed to be dosed as a blanket feed with pumps running. Turning pumps off to target-feed concentrates the dose on individual polyps and can stress coral tissue rather than help it.

Does it need to be refrigerated?

Refrigeration after opening helps preserve freshness but isn't required – the formulation is preserved for storage at room temperature.
