Arcadia publishes lux and PAR readings at stated distances from the bar. Use this to judge whether a plant on a lower shelf or in the substrate is getting enough light, rather than going on wattage alone.

Low to mid-light terrarium plants (pothos, ferns, mosses, many broadleaf tropicals) do well from 300-450 mm. Higher-light plants sitting close to the canopy see the strongest output nearer 100-150 mm.

The 290 mm bar suits mesh-top or wooden-canopy vivariums from roughly 30 cm up to 90 cm wide - Arcadia sells longer Jungle Dawn bars for wider enclosures rather than expecting one 15W unit to stretch across them. Mount it a minimum of 125 mm above the enclosure top. Because it's IP20 rated, keep it clear of direct misting or splashback in a humid bioactive setup - mount it above the mesh, not inside the humid airspace.

At 15W, running the bar for 12 hours a day works out to roughly 66 kWh a year, or around $20 a year at a 30c/kWh tariff. Actual cost depends on your photoperiod and electricity rate.

Suitable for: live plants, moss and bioactive substrate in terrariums and vivariums, run alongside a separate UV-B or heat lamp for the animals.

Not suitable for: use as the sole light source where a reptile also needs UV-B - this is a plant-growth light, not a UV lamp, and carries no UV-B output. It's also not rated for direct water contact or submersion.

Will this light grow plants in my terrarium?

Does it provide UV-B for my reptile?

No. It has no UV-B output. Pair it with a separate Arcadia UV-B lamp such as a ProT5 kit for the animal's UV needs.

Can it get wet?

It's rated IP20, which is not splash or waterproof. Mount it above the mesh top, clear of misting systems and direct humidity.

How do I mount it?

It sits on top of a mesh lid or screws to a wooden vivarium roof, at least 125 mm above the enclosure, using the fittings kit supplied.
