Maple Leaf Stone 20kg Box

Warm, porous stone with a natural woodgrain look, sold by the 20 kg box. Bioscape Maple Leaf Stone is a natural aquascaping rock in reddish-brown to dark orange tones, with a rough, grooved surface that reads like bark or driftwood from a distance – a popular choice for planted layouts, terrariums and paludariums that want warmth without the calcareous hardening of grey stones.

Key features
  • Warm, porous texture – deep grooves and contours in reddish-brown to dark orange tones, closer in feel to driftwood than to a typical grey aquascaping rock.
  • Lower-impact on water hardness than seiryu-type stone – generally treated as an inert stone, though washing thoroughly before use is still recommended to minimise any effect on pH.
  • Breaks cleanly – less dense than harder stones like seiryu, so a hammer and chisel will split larger pieces down to size if you need a custom shape.
  • 20 kg box of mixed pieces – enough for a full aquascape build, a large paludarium, or several smaller layouts.
  • Each piece is unique – natural stone, so shape, weight and exact colouring vary piece to piece; the photo is representative, not the exact pieces you'll receive.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for planted freshwater and marine aquascapes, terrariums, paludariums and vivariums, including reptile and frog enclosures, where a warm-toned, textured stone is wanted for structure. Less suited to layouts built specifically to avoid any hardness creep at all – while Maple Leaf Stone is generally considered inert, some pieces can still cause a mild, gradual rise in hardness, so it's not the first pick for the most sensitive soft-water setups (wild-caught shrimp, some soft-water tetras) without testing first.

Preparation

Rinse thoroughly before adding to a tank or enclosure to clear dust and loose grit from handling – the manufacturer notes this also helps minimise any effect on pH. If you're running a soft-water or shrimp tank, bucket-test a piece in tap or RO water for a few days and check KH, GH and pH before and after, so there are no surprises in the display tank.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against being not as described under Australian Consumer Law. As a natural product, the pieces you receive will vary from the listing photo in shape, colour and exact weight – that's expected, not a fault. Sold and freighted as a 20 kg box.

Common questions

Will Maple Leaf Stone raise my water hardness?

It's generally treated as an inert stone, so the effect is much smaller than a calcareous stone like seiryu – but some pieces can still cause a mild, gradual rise in hardness. Wash it well and bucket-test first if you're running a soft-water or shrimp tank.

Can I break the pieces down to size?

Yes – it's less dense than harder aquascaping stones, so a hammer and chisel will split larger pieces cleanly if you need a specific shape.

Is it suitable for terrariums and paludariums as well as aquariums?

Yes – its warm, porous texture and colouring is a common choice for terrarium and paludarium hardscaping, including reptile and frog enclosures, as well as planted aquariums.

Will I get the exact pieces shown in the photo?

No – this is a 20 kg box of natural pieces, and the photo is representative of the stone type and colour range, not a guarantee of the specific pieces you'll receive.
