Bioscape Paludarium Open Front 60 x 45 x 90cm 8mm

A tall, open-front glass paludarium built for a full aquatic-to-canopy display. The Bioscape Paludarium Open Front measures 60 × 45 × 90 cm and steps up to 8mm ultra-clear glass to handle the taller water column, with a 30cm-high front panel setting the practical waterline beneath an open top built for planting, misting and a real vertical land zone.

Key features
  • 8mm ultra-clear glass — thicker than the smaller 45×45×60cm model, sized for the additional water-side pressure this taller enclosure carries.
  • 90cm of build height — enough vertical space for a genuine terrestrial zone above the waterline: climbing branches, epiphytes and a canopy layer rather than a shallow shelf.
  • Open-front design — the front panel stops at 30cm, leaving the rest of the height open for hand access, drainage and airflow into the land zone.
  • Bare glass enclosure — sold as the tank only, so filtration, lighting, heating and drainage are specified to suit your own build rather than a generic kit.
Specifications
External dimensions Glass thickness Front panel height Approx. water-zone volume
60 × 45 × 90 cm (W × D × H) 8mm ultra-clear 30cm ~60–76L*

*Calculated from the internal footprint at the 30cm front panel height. Bioscape doesn't publish a water-zone litre rating for this open-front design — actual usable volume will be lower once substrate, drainage layer and hardscape are built in.

What's included, and what's not

This listing is the glass enclosure only — filter, light, heater, lid, background and stand are all separate. At 90cm tall, most keepers also add a drainage layer and false bottom before substrate, which this listing doesn't include either. Bioscape doesn't specify a cover for this open-front design, so confirm with us before ordering if a secure lid is essential for what you're keeping.

Which size do I need?
Model External dimensions Glass thickness Front panel height Approx. water-zone volume
Paludarium Open Front 45×45×60cm 45 × 45 × 60 cm 6mm 20cm ~30–38L
Paludarium Open Front 60×45×90cm 60 × 45 × 90 cm 8mm 30cm ~60–76L

The 60×45×90cm is the larger of the two open-front paludariums Bioscape builds this way. The extra height over the 45×45×60cm model is what makes the difference — it's the size to choose when you want a real climbing zone above the water, for larger amphibians, bigger reptile species, or a more established planted terrestrial layer, rather than a shallow shelf above a shallow front panel.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for larger freshwater paludarium and riparium builds, and reptile or amphibian enclosures where a genuine vertical land zone matters — taller frog and gecko species, or larger aquatic-terrestrial turtles needing both swimming depth and a proper basking climb. Not suitable as a sealed aquarium filled above the 30cm front panel, and not sized for a tabletop — check floor space and structural support before ordering.

Placement and handling

This is a large, heavy piece of glass before you've added water, substrate or hardscape — plan for a two-person lift and a stand or cabinet rated for the combined weight once built and filled. Bioscape doesn't publish an empty or filled weight for this model; if floor loading is a concern for your room or stand, get in touch before ordering so we can help you check.

Care and maintenance

Clean glass with an aquarium-safe cleaner rather than household glass cleaner, which can leave a residue that's harmful to fish and amphibians. With a build this size, check the silicone seams every few months, particularly along the base and the open-front edge, which sees the most contact during planting and maintenance.

Goes well with

A filter and heater sized to your final built water volume rather than the gross tank size, a full-spectrum light rated for live plants across a 90cm depth, and a background or foam back wall to give climbing species more usable surface and to hide equipment from the display side.

Warranty and delivery

Covered against manufacturing defects under Bioscape's warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. As a large glass item this ships with additional packaging and may be subject to freight surcharges — contact us for a freight quote to your postcode before ordering.

Common questions

Do I need two people to move this?

Yes — at 90cm tall and 8mm glass throughout, this is a two-person lift even before it's furnished. Have your final placement ready before unboxing.

Does it come with a filter, light or heater?

No — it's the glass enclosure only. Filtration, lighting and heating are chosen separately to suit your finished water volume and livestock.

Can I fill it to the top like a standard aquarium?

No. The front panel is 30cm high, which sets the practical waterline for this design — the open section above it isn't built to hold water pressure.

What's the difference between this and the 45×45×60cm model?

This one is taller and deeper all round, with 8mm glass instead of 6mm and roughly double the approximate water-zone volume. Choose this size when you need real vertical space for a land zone above the water; the 45×45×60cm suits a smaller occupant or a first build.
