Bioscape Tropic Easy Clean Hang-On Filter
A hang-on filter with three stages of media in one easy-clean cartridge. The Bioscape Tropic Easy Clean Hang-On Filter runs fine wool, activated carbon and bio-balls through a single pull-out cartridge, and comes in three sizes – 160, 320 and 450 L/h – so you can match the filter to the tank rather than running one size across every setup.
Which size do I need?
| Model | SKU | Flow | Power | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Easy Clean 60 | BIS530 | 160 L/h | 3 W | 16–38 L aquariums |
| Easy Clean 100 | BIS531 | 320 L/h | 5 W | 38–75 L aquariums |
| Easy Clean 100+ | BIS532 | 450 L/h | 7 W | 72–110 L aquariums |
Bioscape rates the 160 L/h model for 16 to 38 litre aquariums, the 320 L/h model for 38 to 75 litre aquariums, and the 450 L/h model for 72 to 110 litre aquariums. If your tank is right at the edge of what a mid-size hang-on filter should handle, get in touch and we'll help you match the model to your setup rather than guess.
Key features
- Three-stage media – fine wool, activated carbon and bio-balls, all included in the cartridge.
- Modular cartridge system – the whole media stack pulls out as one unit for a fast clean, rather than fishing out loose media by hand.
- Sponge pre-filter – a sponge cover on the intake catches coarse debris before it reaches the main media, extending cartridge life.
- Quiet hang-on operation – sits on the tank rim with no plumbing to run.
- Three sizes, one design – 160, 320 or 450 L/h, so you can match flow to tank size instead of over- or under-filtering.

What's included
Each unit ships with the filter body, an intake strainer with sponge pre-filter cover, and a full modular cartridge loaded with fine wool, activated carbon and bio-balls.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater community tanks sized to the model's flow rating, as a primary filter on a small tank or supplementary filtration on a larger one. Not intended as the sole filtration on a heavily stocked or heavily fed tank at the top of its size range – pair with a second filter if you're pushing the stocking limit.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the sponge pre-filter regularly in tank water to keep flow up between full cartridge changes. Bioscape hasn't published a fixed cartridge replacement interval for this model; as a general guide, carbon exhausts chemically well before it looks dirty, so replace that stage every few weeks and rinse or replace the wool and bio-ball stages as they visibly clog.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Bioscape's manufacturer warranty in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Common questions
What's the difference between the three sizes?
Flow rate and power scale together – 160 L/h at 3 W, 320 L/h at 5 W, and 450 L/h at 7 W – so you can pick the size that matches your tank rather than one filter doing every job.
What tank size does the 160 L/h suit?
Bioscape rates it for 16–38 L aquariums.
Does the cartridge need to be replaced as a whole unit?
The modular design lets the whole cartridge pull out for cleaning or replacement in one piece, rather than separating the media stages by hand.
Can I run this alongside a canister or sump?
Yes – it works well as supplementary filtration or as backup mechanical and carbon filtration on a tank that already has a primary filter.
