Bioscape Ultra Clear Aquarium
Low-iron glass with none of the green tint of a standard tank. The Bioscape Ultra Clear Aquarium is a rimless, hand-crafted glass tank built from low-iron "ultra clear" glass, sold in five sizes from a 110 L nano-to-mid tank through to a 400 L showpiece, and made for aquascapes and displays where true colour matters more than in a standard green-tinted tank.
Key features
- Low-iron ultra-clear glass — strips out the green cast ordinary float glass shows on thick panes, so plant colours and fish patterns read true.
- Rimless construction — polished top edges and no plastic frame, for an unbroken view into the tank.
- Five sizes, one design language — 110 L through to 400 L, so the same clean look scales from a desktop aquascape to a feature tank.
- Hand-crafted glasswork — panes and silicone joints are hand-assembled rather than machine-run, which is standard practice for rimless tanks at this size.
What's included / Not included
This listing is glass only. It ships as an open-top aquarium with no lid, no filter, no light, no heater and no stand or cabinet. You'll need to source a filter, heater and lighting sized to your chosen volume, and a stand rated for the tank's filled weight, separately.
Specifications
| Model | External size (L×W×H) | Glass thickness | Volume | Empty weight (glass) | Approx. filled weight* |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 110 | 61 × 41 × 45 cm | 8 mm | 110 L nominal (approx. 112.5 L to the rim) | ~23.4 kg | ~136 kg |
| 120 | 81 × 36 × 40 cm | 8 mm | 120 L nominal (approx. 116.6 L to the rim) | ~24.6 kg | ~141 kg |
| 180 | 101 × 41 × 45 cm | 10 mm | 180 L nominal (approx. 186.3 L to the rim) | ~42.3 kg | ~229 kg |
| 300 | 121 × 51 × 50 cm | 10 mm | 300 L nominal (approx. 308.6 L to the rim) | ~58.4 kg | ~367 kg |
| 400 | 151 × 51 × 55 cm | 15 mm | 400 L nominal (approx. 423.6 L to the rim) | ~112.2 kg | ~536 kg |
*Approximate filled weight is glass weight plus water only (1 L ≈ 1 kg) — it excludes substrate, hardscape and equipment, all of which add further load. Treat it as a minimum, not a maximum.
Bioscape doesn't publish internal dimensions for this range. As a rough guide, internal clearance runs a little under the external length and width shown above — reduced by roughly twice the glass thickness on each — with the true figure varying slightly by how the panels are joined. Measure your own unit before ordering equipment that needs a tight fit.
Will it fit my stand?
A rimless tank needs a stand with a level, rigid top rated for the filled weight above — not just the empty tank. The footprint of the stand should be equal to or larger than the tank's base, and the surface needs to be dead level in both directions; even a few millimetres of lean concentrates pressure on one edge of a rimless pane. Bioscape recommends setting the tank on a foam levelling mat between the glass and the stand.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine aquascapes and display tanks. Not sold as a complete or plug-and-play system — it's a bare tank, and every other component of the setup is bought separately.
Structural note for the larger sizes
Filled, the 180 L, 300 L and 400 L tanks weigh in the order of 230 kg to well over half a tonne once substrate, rock and equipment are added. That's a genuine floor-loading question on a timber suspended floor or an upper storey, not just a furniture one. If you're setting up a 300 L or 400 L tank anywhere other than a concrete slab on ground, check the floor's rated load with a builder before you fill it.
Care and maintenance
Low-iron glass is cared for the same way as standard aquarium glass — an algae scraper safe for glass (not acrylic-only tools), and standard aquarium-safe glass cleaner on the outside. Avoid abrasive pads on the polished rimless edges.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Bioscape's manufacturer warranty against defects in the glass and silicone work, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. The 300 L and 400 L tanks are heavy enough that standard parcel delivery won't apply — contact us to confirm delivery options for your address before ordering one of the larger sizes.
Common questions
Does this come with a filter, light or heater?
No. This is a glass-only tank — lid, filter, light, heater and stand are all bought separately.
Do I need a special stand?
Yes — a rimless tank needs a perfectly level, rigid stand rated for the filled weight, with a footprint at least as large as the tank's base.
What's the difference between the nominal litres and the volume you've listed?
The nominal number (110, 120, 180, 300, 400) is the model name Bioscape sells it under. The "to the rim" figure is the tank's actual glass displacement — always a little higher, and it's the number to use for stocking and dosing calculations.
Is low-iron glass worth it over a standard tank?
If colour accuracy matters to you — a planted aquascape or a reef where you're judging coral colour — yes, it's a visible difference at this glass thickness. For a fish-only tank where colour rendering matters less, a standard tank will do the same job for less.
Can I use this for saltwater?
Yes, the tank itself is glass and silicone and is fine for either freshwater or marine use — your equipment and stocking choices are what determine suitability, not the tank.
