Exo Terra Compact Fluoro Light Unit
One fixture, four lengths, built for whichever compact bulb your setup calls for. The Exo Terra Compact Fluoro Light Unit is a low-profile screen-top canopy that holds a single compact fluorescent, LED or incandescent bulb over your terrarium, with a built-in reflector that pushes more of that bulb's light and UV down into the enclosure instead of out the sides. It's sold in four lengths — 30, 45, 60 and 90 cm — to match your terrarium's footprint.
Key features
- Built-in reflector — the 30 cm unit's polished reflector is rated by Exo Terra to boost bulb output by around 2.5 times; the 45–90 cm units use an aluminium reflector to the same end, lifting the light, UVA, UVB and heat that actually reaches your animal.
- Takes replaceable bulbs — sold as the fixture only, so you choose and replace the compact fluorescent, LED or UVB bulb inside it rather than being locked to one globe.
- Low-profile screen-top design — sits flat on a mesh terrarium lid without adding bulk.
- Sliding rim on the 60 cm and 90 cm units — lets you mount accessories along the fixture length.
- Simple plug-and-run operation — no separate ballast or controller needed for compact fluorescent bulbs.

Which length do I need?
Match the fixture length to your terrarium's top opening rather than rounding up "for coverage" — an oversized fixture overhangs the mesh and can't sit flat. The 30 cm unit is the odd one out on bulb compatibility: it's built for compact fluorescent and LED bulbs only, so if you're running an incandescent daylight or basking bulb rather than a compact fluorescent, step up to the 45 cm or larger.
Heat and UV output
This is the fixture, not the bulb — the actual heat and UV reaching your animal depends entirely on which bulb you fit, its wattage and how far the basking area sits below it. Exo Terra publishes gradient tables per bulb, so check the bulb's own product page for its temperature-at-distance or UV-index-at-distance figures; the fixture itself has no fixed output to publish.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to screen-top terrariums where you want a low-profile compact bulb overhead rather than a dome fixture. Not a UVB or heat source on its own — you'll need to buy a bulb to go with it, and the 30 cm unit specifically isn't rated for incandescent bulbs.
Safety
Mains-powered — switch off and allow the fixture to cool before changing bulbs, and don't let terrarium misting or humidity systems spray directly onto the unit. Exo Terra does not publish the fixture's supply voltage on its product pages; check the rating label on the unit itself if you need to confirm it against your household supply.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law as an electrical terrarium accessory. Ships standard.
Goes well with
- An Exo Terra compact fluorescent UVB bulb sized to the fixture length
- A reptile-safe thermostat if you're running a heat-producing bulb in it
- A terrarium screen top sized to match the fixture length
Common questions
Does this fixture include a bulb?
No — it's sold as the fixture only. Choose a compact fluorescent, LED or (on the 45 cm and larger units) incandescent bulb separately based on the heat or UVB your species needs.
Can I use an incandescent heat bulb in the 30 cm unit?
No. The 30 cm unit is built for compact fluorescent and LED bulbs only. For an incandescent bulb, use the 45 cm, 60 cm or 90 cm fixture instead.
What does the reflector actually do?
It directs light back down into the terrarium instead of letting it scatter upward and sideways. Exo Terra rates the 30 cm unit's reflector as boosting output by around 2.5 times over an unreflected bulb.
Will this fit any terrarium?
It sits on a screen or mesh top, so check your terrarium's top opening length against the fixture length before ordering — 30, 45, 60 or 90 cm.
