A rinse-and-reuse moss carpet for terrariums with a rectangular floor. The Exo Terra Moss Mat Medium is a 60 × 45 cm sheet of soft, absorbent moss-textured matting, sized for longer terrariums and larger quarantine or grow-out tanks that a square mat won't cover without heavy trimming.

Key features
  • Sized for rectangular floors — 60 × 45 cm covers a longer terrarium footprint with far less trimming than the Small size.
  • Firm, non-abrasive grip — the textured surface gives reptiles and amphibians secure footing across a larger floor area.
  • Rinse and reuse — lift it, rinse it, disinfect it, put it back, rather than scooping and replacing loose substrate over a large floor.
  • Cuttable to fit — trim around a background, water feature or bioactive drainage layer edge.
  • Reduces impaction risk over a bigger floor area — useful in larger enclosures housing bigger, more established animals.

Which size do I need?
Size Dimensions Best suited to
Mini 30 × 30 cm Nano terrariums, hatchling and juvenile grow-out tanks, quarantine tubs
Small 45 × 45 cm Standard 45 cm cube and similar footprint terrariums
Medium 60 × 45 cm Longer 60 cm terrariums and enclosures needing a rectangular floor

Larger reptile enclosures — bearded dragon and larger monitor setups, for example — will generally need more than one Medium mat, or a mat trimmed and pieced to fit.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to bearded dragons, larger geckos, frogs and other species kept in longer, rectangular-footprint terrariums, and to quarantine or grow-out tanks with a larger floor area. Not a substitute for a bioactive substrate in a heavily planted display, and not intended as a burrowing medium.

Care and maintenance

Rinse under clean running water when soiled, wipe or soak in a reptile-safe disinfectant, rinse again and air dry fully before returning it to the enclosure. Replace once the surface frays or holds odour after cleaning.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law as a standard terrarium accessory. Ships standard.

Goes well with
  • A reptile-safe disinfectant for routine cleaning between uses
  • A basking platform or hide to sit on top of the mat
  • A second Medium mat, or the Small mat, for enclosures with an irregular floor
Common questions

Will one Medium mat cover a 90 cm or larger enclosure?

No — at 60 × 45 cm it's sized for a 60 cm terrarium footprint. Larger enclosures will need more than one mat, trimmed and pieced together.

Can I overlap two mats rather than cutting one to fit?

Yes, overlapping or butting two mats together works well for a bigger floor and avoids wasted offcuts.

Is this suitable for a bearded dragon enclosure?

Yes, it's a common choice for quarantine or grow-out tanks, though many keepers move an adult bearded dragon onto a bioactive substrate for its permanent display.

How do I know when to replace it?

Replace it once the surface frays, thins out, or holds odour after a proper rinse and disinfect — there's no fixed replacement interval.
