A rinse-and-reuse moss carpet that skips the mess of loose substrate. The Exo Terra Moss Mat Mini is a 30 × 30 cm sheet of soft, absorbent moss-textured matting that lines the floor of small terrariums and quarantine or grow-out tanks, giving your reptile or amphibian secure footing without the bacterial build-up, dust or impaction risk that comes with loose substrate.

Key features
  • Firm, non-abrasive grip — the textured surface gives geckos, frogs and small reptiles secure footing, which helps reduce stress in a new or quarantine enclosure.
  • Rinse and reuse — lift it out, rinse under the tap, disinfect and put it back, instead of scooping and replacing loose substrate.
  • Cuttable to fit — trim it down for a hide base, a water-dish surround, or an odd-shaped enclosure floor.
  • Reduces impaction risk — nothing loose for a young or opportunistic feeder to accidentally ingest with food.
  • Holds a little moisture — mist it to add short-term humidity around a hide, though it isn't a substitute for a proper humid microclimate in tanks that need one.

Which size do I need?
Size Dimensions Best suited to
Mini 30 × 30 cm Nano terrariums, hatchling and juvenile grow-out tanks, quarantine tubs
Small 45 × 45 cm Standard 45 cm cube and similar footprint terrariums
Medium 60 × 45 cm Longer 60 cm terrariums and enclosures needing a rectangular floor

All three trim easily with scissors, so sizing up and cutting down is generally the safer choice over sizing down and leaving gaps.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suited to geckos, small lizards, frogs, and other reptiles and amphibians kept on a firm, easy-clean floor covering, including quarantine and hospital setups where loose substrate is best avoided. Not a substitute for a bioactive substrate in a planted, humidity-driven enclosure, and not intended as a burrowing medium for fossorial species.

Care and maintenance

Rinse under clean running water when soiled, wipe or soak in a reptile-safe disinfectant, rinse again and air dry before reuse. Replace once the surface starts to fray or hold odour after cleaning.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law as a standard terrarium accessory. Ships standard.

Goes well with
  • A reptile-safe disinfectant for routine cleaning between uses
  • A small hide to sit on top of the mat for security
  • The Small or Medium mat if you're setting up more than one enclosure size
Common questions

Can I use this instead of a substrate for a bioactive enclosure?

No — bioactive setups need a substrate that supports live plants and a cleanup crew. This mat suits quarantine tanks, grow-out tubs and simple setups where easy cleaning matters more than planting.

Will it hold humidity on its own?

It holds some moisture when misted, but it isn't a humidity substrate. For species that need sustained high humidity, pair it with a proper substrate or a humid hide.

Can I cut it to fit an irregular enclosure floor?

Yes, it trims easily with scissors, so you can shape it around a water dish, background or hide base.

Is it safe if my animal ingests a small piece?

It carries far lower impaction risk than loose substrate, but as with any furnishing, keep an eye on animals that chew or pick at their enclosure floor and remove the mat if you see damage.
