Exo Terra Forest Plant Croton

A realistic croton replica that adds colour and cover without any maintenance. The Exo Terra Forest Plant Croton is a plastic terrarium plant modelled on the bright, multi-toned foliage of a live croton, giving a reptile or amphibian enclosure the look of established planting with none of the watering, trimming or die-back that comes with the real thing. It's built on a bendable, twistable stem so it can be shaped around branches, backgrounds and other décor, and it ships in Small, Medium and Large sizes to suit anything from a small gecko enclosure to a large bioactive display.

Key features
  • Bendable, twistable stem – shape it around branches, hides and background features rather than placing it flat.
  • Non-toxic plastic construction – safe if an inquisitive reptile or amphibian brushes against or chews on the foliage.
  • Rinse-clean and disinfectable – wipes down for routine enclosure cleaning without the leaves degrading.
  • Creates hiding spots and visual barriers – gives shy or stressed animals cover, and breaks sightlines in a shared or high-traffic room.
  • Works alongside live plants – fills gaps in a bioactive setup or covers spots where real planting struggles, such as directly under a heat lamp.

Exact leaf dimensions aren't published by the manufacturer – choose by the Small, Medium or Large size band relative to your enclosure footprint rather than a stated height.

Which size do I need?

Small suits nano and small enclosures such as a dart frog or juvenile gecko setup. Medium is the general-purpose size for a standard glass terrarium. Large is built for bigger bioactive or naturalistic enclosures where a single plant needs to hold its own next to other tall décor. If you're unsure, it's easier to combine two Small or Medium plants for coverage than to fit an oversized Large into a compact enclosure.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for any dry terrarium housing reptiles, amphibians or invertebrates, including quarantine and hospital setups where live plants aren't practical. Not designed as a load-bearing perch or basking platform – use a branch, cork bark or dedicated platform for animals that need to climb and bask, and position it clear of heat sources it could deform against over time.

Care and maintenance

Rinse under water when soiled and wipe away any substrate or waste build-up in the leaf folds. The plastic construction tolerates routine disinfection, which makes it a practical choice for quarantine tanks that need to be stripped back and cleaned between animals.

Goes well with
  • Exo Terra Forest Plant Ficus, Mandarin or Ruscus – mix species for a fuller, more natural-looking display
  • Cork bark or branch décor for a basking or climbing surface the plant itself isn't designed to provide
  • A background panel to anchor the stem against, rather than relying on substrate alone to hold it upright

Common questions

Is this safe if my reptile chews on it?

Yes – it's made from non-toxic plastic, though it isn't a food item and shouldn't replace an appropriate diet or enrichment chew.

Can I use it in a bioactive enclosure with live plants?

Yes. It's designed to be combined with live plants, filling gaps or covering spots where real planting hasn't established yet or won't survive, such as close to a heat source.

Does it come with a base or does it need planting in substrate?

The manufacturer doesn't publish a separate weighted base for this range – the bendable stem is designed to be shaped around existing décor, branches or buried into substrate for stability.

What's the difference between the Small, Medium and Large sizes?

Size only – all three are the same croton replica at a different scale, so pick based on your enclosure footprint rather than any difference in features.
