Exo Terra Forest Plant Ruscus

Layered silk leaves that create natural pockets of cover. The Exo Terra Forest Plant Ruscus is a silk terrarium plant styled on the dense, layered foliage of a live ruscus, giving reptiles and amphibians shaded hiding spots without any of the upkeep of real planting. The bendable stem shapes around branches and background panels, and it's available in Small, Medium and Large sizes.

Key features
  • Layered silk leaves — form small shaded pockets reptiles and amphibians can use as hides, rather than a single flat surface.
  • Bendable stem — shape it around branches, cork bark and background panels.
  • Non-toxic materials — safe for use in enclosures housing reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates.
  • Rinse-clean care — wash under water when soiled, suited to routine enclosure cleaning.
  • Pairs with live plants — fills gaps in a bioactive setup or covers areas real planting won't hold in.

The manufacturer's product page for this range could not be reached this run, and exact leaf or stem dimensions aren't otherwise published — Small, Medium and Large are relative size bands, so choose against your enclosure footprint rather than a stated measurement.

Which size do I need?

Small suits nano enclosures or works as one of several plants in a mixed display. Medium is the general-purpose size for a standard terrarium. Large is sized for bigger bioactive setups where the layered foliage needs to hold its own as a feature piece rather than an accent.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for dry terrariums housing reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, including quarantine setups where real plants aren't practical. Not designed as a climbing perch or basking platform — the silk leaves aren't built to bear sustained weight the way cork bark or a branch will.

Care and maintenance

Rinse under water when soiled. Check the layered leaves for trapped substrate or waste, since the same folds that create hiding pockets for your animal can also collect debris.

Goes well with
  • Exo Terra Forest Plant Croton, Ficus or Mandarin — combine species and textures for a fuller display
  • Cork bark or branch décor for a climbing or basking surface the plant itself doesn't provide
  • A background panel to anchor taller stems against

Common questions

Does the layered foliage actually work as a hide?

Yes — the layered leaves form small shaded pockets that reptiles and amphibians can tuck into, similar to the effect of dense real foliage.

Is it safe for my reptile to be around?

Yes, it's made from non-toxic materials, though it's décor rather than an enrichment chew toy.

Can I combine it with live plants?

Yes, it's designed to fill gaps in a bioactive enclosure or cover spots where live plants struggle, such as close to a heat source.

What's the difference between the Small, Medium and Large sizes?

Size only — all three are the same ruscus-style replica at a different scale, so choose based on your enclosure footprint.
