Exo Terra Frog Terrarium- 45 x 45 x 45
A secure, plantable terrarium that keeps its footprint compact. The Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Small Wide (model PT2605) is a 45 x 45 x 45 cm all-glass enclosure with dual lockable front doors, a full stainless steel mesh screen top for UVB and infrared penetration, and a waterproof, raised base built to take a substrate heater. It ships with an Exo Terra Rock Terrarium Background already fitted — heating, lighting, substrate and remaining decor are added separately to suit your species.
Key features
- Dual front-opening doors — open one side at a time for feeding or maintenance without giving every animal in the enclosure a chance to bolt, and lock them with the built-in latch when you're done.
- Full screen top ventilation — the removable stainless steel mesh top is designed to let UVB and infrared through, so a clip-on lamp fixture sits directly above the animal rather than behind glass.
- Five closable cable inlets per side — route probe leads, heat cables and pump lines through the mesh frame without leaving a permanent gap an animal can push through.
- Waterproof, raised base — the elevated bottom frame keeps a substrate heater clear of damp substrate, and the sealed floor tolerates a deep substrate layer or a shallow water section.
- Extra-high fixed front glass panel — built for thick substrate layers or a part-water, part-land paludarium setup, rather than a shallow display-only base.
- Exo Terra Rock Terrarium Background included — a textured resin background panel ships fitted, ready to plant into or hide cabling behind.

Which size do I need?
This Small Wide is the cube-shaped option in Exo Terra's 45 x 45 cm footprint — the same floor space as the Small Tall (45 x 45 x 60 cm) but 15 cm less climbing height. Choose Wide for species that spend most of their time on the ground or on low branches; choose Tall where a species needs more vertical space to climb without a larger floor footprint or stand.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to terrestrial and semi-arboreal reptiles and amphibians that fit a 45 cm cube footprint, and to humidity-loving species — the ventilation is entirely through the screen top rather than mesh side panels, so the enclosure holds humidity better than a fully-meshed cage.
Not suitable as a full aquarium — the waterproof base supports a shallow water section or paludarium build, not a permanent deep-water tank. Not intended for species that need strong side-to-side airflow, such as many arid-adapted lizards, or for animals too large to comfortably turn around within a 45 cm cube.
What's included / what you'll still need
Included: the terrarium unit, the Exo Terra Rock Terrarium Background, the mesh screen top and the lockable front doors.
You'll still need: a heat source and, for diurnal species, UVB lighting sized and positioned per that lamp's own gradient chart, a thermostat to control it, substrate, a water dish and any additional climbing decor or live plants.
Care and maintenance
Open one door at a time when spot-cleaning to reduce escape risk. Lift the mesh top clear for full access when changing substrate or rearranging decor. Wipe the inside of the glass and the rock background panel as part of your regular clean — the background's textured surface is more forgiving of algae and mineral marks than plain glass, but still needs periodic attention in humid setups.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law as a manufactured glass product, in addition to any Exo Terra manufacturer warranty. It's a large glass enclosure — inspect it for transit damage before you unpack it fully, and keep the packaging until you're sure everything has arrived intact.
Goes well with
- A heat lamp or heat mat sized to your species, run through a thermostat
- A UVB lamp for diurnal species, mounted at the distance its own gradient chart recommends
- Species-appropriate substrate deep enough to suit burrowing behaviour
- An Exo Terra Frog Water Pond or similar water dish sized to the animal
Common questions
Does this terrarium come with heating or lighting?
No. It ships with the terrarium unit, the mesh screen top and the Rock Terrarium Background fitted. Heating, UVB or heat lighting, a thermostat and substrate are chosen separately to suit your species.
Can I keep an aquatic turtle in this?
No — the waterproof base suits a shallow water section or paludarium build, not a permanent aquatic setup. For a fully aquatic species, use a dedicated aquarium tank instead.
Will a clip-on heat or UVB lamp fit on the screen top?
Yes — the removable stainless steel mesh top is designed for clip-on fixtures. Mount the lamp at the distance stated on that lamp's own heat or UV gradient chart for your species.
What's the Rock Terrarium Background for?
It's a textured resin panel that ships fitted to the back of the enclosure, giving climbing species something to grip and a surface plants can be secured to.
Can I route heating cables or probes through the mesh top?
Yes — there are five closable wire and tube inlets on each side of the screen top for exactly that.
