Exo Terra Pro Terrarium Small / Wide 45 x 45 x 45cm
A balanced cube for species that use both the floor and a little height. The Exo Terra Pro Terrarium Small/Wide (model PT4404) is a 45 x 45 x 45 cm all-glass enclosure — the cube-shaped middle ground in the Small range, between the ground-hugging Small/Low and the climbing-height Small/Tall. It carries the full Pro range feature set: a lockable stainless steel mesh top, spring-loaded lockable front doors and three-tier adjustable ventilation.
Key features
- Stainless steel mesh top — engineered for optimal UVB penetration, so lamps mount above the mesh rather than behind glass.
- Three-tier adjustable ventilation — patented forced vertical airflow reduces condensation while still holding humidity for planted or bioactive setups.
- Spring-loaded, lockable front doors — feed, mist or spot-clean through either door without disturbing the whole enclosure.
- Patented in-frame locking top — locks into the frame rather than resting loose on top.
- Deep, waterproof base with raised frame — clears a substrate heater and tolerates a thicker substrate layer.
- Self-closing rear cable inlets with internal gutters — route probes, misting lines and heat cabling cleanly out the back.
- Monsoon-ready — built-in nozzle attachment points for Exo Terra's Monsoon misting system (sold separately).

Heat and UVB mounting clearance
The 45 cm internal height gives more working room above the substrate than the Small/Low, enough for most basking bulbs and compact UVB fixtures once you allow for substrate depth. Always check the bulb's own gradient chart for its minimum safe mounting distance rather than assuming it fits — for species needing more vertical drop between a basking spot and a cool zone, the 60 cm Small/Tall gives extra headroom.
Which Pro Terrarium size do I need?
| Model | Footprint | Height | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| X-Small/Tall | 30 x 30 cm | 45 cm | Smallest footprint with full vertical space — arboreal species kept in a compact setup |
| Small/Low | 45 x 45 cm | 30 cm | Maximum floor space on minimum height — ground-dwelling and fossorial species, including many desert species |
| Small/Wide | 45 x 45 cm | 45 cm | Balanced cube — general keeping across ground-dwelling and low-climbing species |
| Small/Tall | 45 x 45 cm | 60 cm | Full vertical space on a 45 x 45 cm footprint — arboreal and semi-arboreal species |
What's included / what you'll still need
Included: the terrarium unit, the removable lockable stainless steel mesh top, the spring-loaded lockable front doors and the deep waterproof base.
You'll still need: a heat source and, for diurnal species, UVB lighting positioned per that lamp's own gradient chart, a thermostat, substrate, a water dish and decor.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suited to terrestrial and semi-arboreal reptiles and amphibians that fit a 45 cm cube — species that use the floor most of the time but benefit from a little height for climbing branches or a raised basking spot.
Not suitable as a permanent full-depth aquatic tank, and not the best choice for strongly arboreal species that need more vertical space than a cube allows — the Small/Tall suits those better.
Care and maintenance
Open one door at a time when spot-cleaning. Lift the mesh top clear for full access when changing substrate or decor. Wipe the glass regularly and check door latches for wear.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by your rights under Australian Consumer Law as a manufactured glass product, in addition to any Exo Terra manufacturer warranty. It's a large glass item — inspect it for transit damage before unpacking fully, and keep packaging until you're sure it arrived intact.
Goes well with
- A heat lamp or heat mat sized to your species, run through a thermostat
- UVB lighting for diurnal species, mounted at the distance its own gradient chart recommends
- Species-appropriate substrate for a floor-and-branch setup
- Climbing decor such as vines or cork bark for the extra height
Common questions
Does this terrarium include heating or lighting?
No. It ships as the terrarium unit with its mesh top and lockable doors fitted — heating, UVB lighting, a thermostat and substrate are chosen separately.
Is this better than the Small/Low for my species?
If your species climbs at all or benefits from a raised basking spot, the extra 15 cm of height helps. Strictly ground-dwelling species do fine in either.
Will a clip-on heat or UVB lamp fit the mesh top?
Yes — the removable stainless steel mesh top takes standard clip-on fixtures. Mount at the distance the bulb's own gradient chart recommends.
Does it hold humidity well for a planted build?
The three-tier ventilation is adjustable, so airflow can be reduced to help hold humidity for a bioactive or planted setup, or opened up for drier species.
