Exo Terra Small Extra Tall All Glass Terrarium - 45 x 45 x 90cm
Maximum vertical space in a 45 × 45 cm footprint, built for species that live up rather than along the ground. The Exo Terra Small X-Tall Terrarium (45 × 45 × 90 cm) is the tallest of the three same-footprint terrariums in this range – a front-opening all-glass enclosure suited to strongly arboreal reptiles and amphibians, and to paludarium-style builds that carry a deep water or land section. Sold in Australia as SKU AA2392, it's the Exo Terra Natural Terrarium Small X-Tall, manufacturer part number PT2606.
Key features
- Dual front-opening doors with a locking mechanism – the manufacturer specifies four separate screen cover locks for added security on this taller model.
- Full stainless steel mesh top – completely removable, rated by the manufacturer for ventilation and UVB penetration.
- Raised, waterproof base – built to take a substrate heater underneath and hold a deep substrate, drainage layer, or a genuine water section for a paludarium build.
- Dual ventilation system – designed by the manufacturer to reduce condensation build-up on the front glass, which matters more on a tall enclosure with a bigger air column.
- Closable wire/tubing inlets – routes probes, cables and misting lines without leaving a permanent gap.
- Root-effect background included – cuttable, natural-look backing with cut-outs for wiring and tubing.

Which size do I need?
All three terrariums in this line share the same 45 × 45 cm footprint and differ only in height, so the choice comes down to how your species uses vertical space.
| Model | Footprint | Height | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small Wide | 45 × 45 cm | 45 cm | Ground-dwelling species – more floor than climbing height |
| Small Tall | 45 × 45 cm | 60 cm | Species that climb and bask – a balance of floor and height |
| Small X-Tall (this one) | 45 × 45 cm | 90 cm | Strongly arboreal species and paludarium builds needing the most vertical space |
What's included / what you'll still need
Included: the glass enclosure, dual lockable doors, removable mesh top, raised waterproof base and the root-effect background panel. Not included: heating (mat or lamp), UVB or basking lighting, a thermostat, substrate, décor and hides, or a water pump and filtration if you're building a paludarium water section – all sold separately.
Suitable for – and not suitable for
Suited to strongly arboreal reptiles and amphibians that need real climbing height, and to keepers building a tall paludarium with a substantial land and water split. Not the right choice for a strictly ground-dwelling species, where the extra height is wasted floor-to-ceiling air rather than usable space – the Small Wide suits those better and is cheaper to heat.
Safety
The enclosure itself isn't mains-powered, but almost everything installed inside one is – heat mats, lamps, thermostats, and potentially a water pump for a paludarium section. Always run heating through a thermostat rated for the wattage in use, and follow the manufacturer's safety instructions for whatever lamp, mat or pump you add. A 90 cm enclosure needs a lamp with enough reach to still deliver a safe basking temperature and UV index at the animal's actual perch height – check the specific lamp's own gradient table against your intended mounting height before buying.
Care and maintenance
Wipe the glass and mesh top down as part of routine cleaning, and check the door locks, mesh clips and any water section's pump and filtration periodically.
Goes well with
- An Exo Terra heat mat sized to the enclosure, mounted on the raised base.
- A basking lamp or UVB fixture with a mounting range suited to a 90 cm enclosure.
- Substrate, hardscape and planting suited to a tall, climb-focused layout.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by the standard consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, in addition to any manufacturer term. Ships from our Brisbane / North Lakes warehouse – being a large, tall glass item, it's boxed for transit; contact us if you'd like a freight estimate before ordering.
Common questions
Does this include heating or lighting?
No. The terrarium is the enclosure only – heat mats, lamps, thermostats and UVB lighting are sold separately so you can match them to your species and to the 90 cm mounting height.
What's the difference between the Small Tall and the Small X-Tall?
Both share the same 45 × 45 cm footprint. The Small Tall is 60 cm high; this X-Tall is 90 cm – the extra 30 cm suits strongly arboreal species or a taller paludarium build, at the cost of more air volume to heat and light.
Can I build a paludarium in this?
The raised, waterproof base supports a genuine water section alongside a land area, which is why keepers use this model for paludarium builds. You'll need your own pump, filtration and sealant plan for the water side – these aren't included.
Is there a lock on the doors?
Yes – the manufacturer specifies four separate screen cover locks on this model, in addition to the door locking mechanism.
