Exo Terra Star Cactus
All the structure of a cactus, none of the care routine. The Exo Terra Star Cactus is a 23 cm wide replica desert plant, moulded and painted to reproduce the ribbing and spine clusters of a real cactus, built from a non-toxic material that's sturdy enough to handle regular cleaning and disinfecting.
Key features
- Realistic detail — moulded and painted to read as a genuine cactus rather than an obvious prop, down to the ribbing and spine clusters.
- Non-toxic material — safe to have in an enclosure with an animal that may investigate or rest against it.
- Easy to clean — rinse or wipe down, and it can be disinfected, which live plants can't tolerate.
- No care requirements — no watering, lighting or feeding schedule, unlike the real plant it imitates.
- Creates shelter — the shape forms nooks an animal can duck into for a sense of security.

Suitable for — and not suitable for
Well suited to desert and arid-style terrariums, quarantine or hospital setups where live plants and substrate additions aren't practical, and as a low-maintenance filler alongside real planting. Not a substitute for live plants where a species benefits from foliage cover, humidity buffering or natural grazing — it's decoration and shelter only.
Care and maintenance
Rinse with water when soiled. The material tolerates disinfecting, which makes it a reasonable choice for quarantine terrariums where surfaces need to be sanitised between animals.
Goes well with
- Exo Terra desert substrates, for a matched arid-terrarium look.
- Other Exo Terra artificial plants, to build up a fuller desert planting scheme without live plant maintenance.
- A basking lamp and heat source suited to the desert species the enclosure is set up for.

No — it's a non-toxic replica, moulded and painted to look like one. There's no watering or light requirement.
Is it safe for reptiles to touch or climb on?
Yes — it's made from a non-toxic material intended for use inside terrariums with live animals.
Can I use it in a quarantine tank?
