Fluval 106/206 Intake Stem and Strainer
Replaces a cracked, brittle or missing intake stem and strainer on your Fluval 06-series canister filter.
This is the genuine Fluval intake stem with strainer, part A20010, for the 106 and 206 canister filters, and shared with the earlier 105/205 and the 107/207 in the same family. It's the clear plastic tube that runs from the intake hose down into the tank, fitted with the strainer cap that keeps gravel, plants and larger debris out of the pump.
Key features
- Genuine Fluval A20010 – the manufacturer's own replacement, matched to the original fit.
- Stem and strainer supplied together – one assembly, no need to source the tube and cap separately.
- Wide-mouth strainer – a broad intake face helps keep flow up as it fouls between cleans.
- Shared across the 06 series – the same part covers the 105/205, 106/206 and 107/207 canisters.

Will it fit my filter?
Check your filter's model code against the table below – Fluval's 06-series canisters share this stem and strainer across three generations.

| Fluval 205 | A206 | Yes |

Suitable for, and not suitable for
Suitable for freshwater and marine setups running a Fluval 105/205, 106/206 or 107/207 canister filter, wherever the original stem has cracked, clouded with age, or lost its strainer cap.
Not suitable as a shrimp or fry guard on its own – the strainer's slots keep out gravel and larger debris but are not fine enough to stop shrimp or fry being drawn in; fit a pre-filter sponge over the intake if you need to protect them. Not compatible with the 305/405, 306/406 or 307/407 series.
Care and maintenance
Rinse the strainer in used tank water at each filter service to clear trapped debris and keep flow up. Check the stem periodically for hairline cracks or a chalky, discoloured look – ageing plastic exposed to aquarium lighting for years is the most common reason this part needs replacing. Avoid detergents or solvents; plain water only.
Goes well with
- Intake strainer alone (A20007) – if only the strainer cap has failed and the stem itself is still sound.
- Ribbed intake and output hosing – worth checking alongside the stem if the tubing has perished or kinked.
Warranty and delivery
Supplied as a genuine Fluval replacement part. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law apply in full and nothing here limits them.
Common questions
Will this fit my Fluval 106 or 206?
Yes, A20010 is the genuine stem and strainer for both the 106 (A202) and 206 (A207).
Does it also fit the 107/207 and 105/205?
Yes, Fluval uses the same part across the 105/205, 106/206 and 107/207 canisters.
Will it fit my 305/405 or 306/406?
No – those larger canisters use A20011, a different-sized stem.
Can I buy just the strainer, not the whole stem?
Yes, the strainer alone is available as part A20007, if the stem itself is undamaged.
Will it stop shrimp or fry getting into the filter?
No – the strainer keeps out gravel and larger debris, but the slots aren't fine enough to stop shrimp or fry. Use a pre-filter sponge for that.
