Fluval Bug Bites Tropical Flakes

Built on black soldier fly larvae, not fish meal, for closer-to-natural nutrition. Fluval Bug Bites Tropical Flakes is a flake food for community tropical freshwater aquariums, using dried black soldier fly larvae as its primary ingredient rather than the fish meal most everyday flakes are built on. It's fortified with added vitamins and minerals and sold in four pack sizes to suit anything from a single starter tank to a multi-tank fish room.

Key features
  • Insect-first recipe – dried black soldier fly larvae is the first ingredient, ahead of herring meal and fish protein concentrate.
  • Fortified formula – added vitamins, minerals and trace nutrients round out the insect-based base for daily nutrition.
  • Salmon oil and kelp included – support colour and overall vitality.
  • Preserved naturally – mixed tocopherols and rosemary extract are used as the preservative system.
  • Four pack sizes – 18 g through to 180 g, so you're not locked into a bulk pack to try it.
  • Low-mess flake – designed to be eaten within a minute, reducing what's left to break down in the water.

Which size do I need?

Suitable for, and not suitable for
  • Suitable for: community tropical freshwater aquariums and omnivorous or carnivorous tropical species.
  • Not suitable for: use as the sole diet for fish with specialised dietary needs – strict herbivores, fry, or fish on a medicated or vet-directed diet. Check the ingredient list above against any restriction before feeding.
Care and maintenance

Store the pouch sealed, away from heat and humidity, and reseal it firmly after each use – flake food absorbs moisture quickly and clumps or spoils once it does.

Warranty and delivery

As a consumable food, this product isn't covered by a manufacturer warranty. Every purchase is still backed by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, which apply regardless of any warranty term.

Common questions

Is this a complete diet or a supplement?

It's formulated as a complete daily flake for community tropical fish, built around insect protein with added vitamins and minerals rather than as a top-up supplement.

Why insect protein instead of fish meal?

Black soldier fly larvae give a protein source closer to what many tropical fish encounter in the wild, and it's the first ingredient in this formula rather than a minor addition.

How often should I feed it?

Feed 2–3 times a week, only as much as the fish can finish in about a minute, per the manufacturer's feeding directions.

Will it cloud the water if I overfeed?

Uneaten flake breaks down like any other food and can affect water quality if it's left to sit – feed only what clears in a minute and remove any obvious excess.
