Fluval C4 Hang On Filter Zeo-Carb

A single cartridge that pulls double duty — ammonia removal and water polishing in one insert. Fluval Zeo-Carb combines Fluval's activated carbon with an ammonia-removing zeolite in one pre-measured pad, made specifically for the Fluval C4 Power Filter.

It drops straight into the C4's chemical filtration stage, so there's no cutting, no loose media and no guessing at dosage — open the sealed pouch and swap it in.

Key features
  • Two jobs, one cartridge — activated carbon for odours, discolouration and dissolved organics, plus zeolite that binds free ammonia.
  • Pre-measured and sealed — no mess, no loose granules to rinse in.
  • Purpose-fit for the C4 — sized and shaped for the C4's media tray, so it seats correctly every time.
  • Frees up basket space — one cartridge covers two jobs where you'd otherwise run two separate media.

Will this fit my filter?

Zeo-Carb is made only for the Fluval C4 Power Filter (up to 70 US gal / 265 L). Fluval sells separate Zeo-Carb sizes for the smaller C2 and C3 hang-on filters — this pack will not seat correctly in either. Check your filter's model number, printed on the housing, before ordering.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Safe for freshwater and marine set-ups. Not a substitute for biological filtration — Zeo-Carb handles chemical polishing only, so keep your C4's Bio-Screen pad and BIOMAX nodes in place alongside it.

Care and maintenance

Fluval doesn't publish a fixed replacement interval specific to Zeo-Carb, but its own guidance for carbon-based media generally is to replace monthly, or sooner once it has done its job — cleared an odour, pulled cloudiness, or mopped up ammonia after a spike. Rinse the new cartridge briefly under tap water before fitting to clear carbon dust.

Common questions

Can I rinse and reuse Zeo-Carb?

No. Once the carbon and zeolite are saturated they stop adsorbing and can release what they've captured back into the water — replace rather than rinse and reuse.

Does this replace regular water changes?

No. Zeo-Carb helps manage ammonia spikes and water clarity between changes, but it isn't a substitute for routine partial water changes.

Will it remove medication from the tank?

Yes — like any activated carbon, it will pull aquarium medications out of the water, so remove it before dosing treatments and only refit it once the course is finished.
