Fluval G6 Impeller Assembly and Cover

Genuine replacement impeller and cover for the Fluval G6 canister filter. The impeller is the part that moves water through a G6 Advanced Filtration System, and it's also the part that wears fastest — the magnetic drive picks up grit, and the fins or cover chip over years of use. This assembly replaces both the impeller and its housing cover in one part.

Key features
  • Genuine Fluval part — matched tolerances to the G6 motor housing, unlike generic aftermarket impellers that can run loose or noisy.
  • Impeller and cover together — the cover is included because it's usually replaced at the same time, and the two parts seal against each other.
  • Magnetic drive — no direct mechanical coupling to the motor shaft, which is why the impeller assembly is the wear item rather than the motor itself.

Compatibility

This impeller and cover fit the Fluval G6 only. The G3 uses a different motor housing and does not take this part — check your filter's model plate before ordering if you're not sure which G-Series unit you have.

Signs you need this part
  • Flow noticeably weaker than when the filter was new
  • A new humming, grinding or rattling noise from the motor housing
  • The filter struggles to prime or loses prime repeatedly
  • Visible cracks or chips in the impeller fins or cover
Fitting

The impeller assembly and cover are user-replaceable without tools — they lift out of the motor housing the same way the originals were fitted. Always isolate and drain the filter before opening the motor head.

Warranty and delivery

Covered by Fluval's standard spare parts warranty against manufacturing defects, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships as a small parcel.

Common questions

Does this fit the Fluval G3?

No. The G3 and G6 share return-line parts but use different motor housings, so the impeller assembly is model-specific — this part is for the G6 only.

Do I need to replace the cover as well as the impeller?

They're sold together because the cover seals against the impeller housing and typically shows the same wear. Replacing both at once avoids a mismatched seal.

How do I know if it's the impeller and not something else causing weak flow?

Check for visible chips or cracks on the impeller fins first, and listen for a change in motor noise. If the impeller looks intact and the filter still won't prime, the issue may be elsewhere in the flow path rather than the impeller.
