Fluval LED Plant PRO Light 4.0 90w 88.2 - 124.4cm BT Mesh
A 90 W planted tank LED for aquariums 88 to 124 cm long, controlled from your phone. The Fluval Plant PRO 4.0 90 W (Fluval item 16897) uses 504 LEDs at 7500 K colour temperature (Kelvin is how warm or cool white light looks; 7500 K is a crisp daylight white) for a rated 7,200 lumens. It is set up and scheduled through the free FluvalConnect app over Bluetooth mesh (the lights and your phone link directly over Bluetooth, and several lights can be controlled together). Extendable brackets let it sit across tanks from 88 to 124 cm.
Key features
- App control: programmable 24 hour light cycle, adjustable colour and brightness, and preset environments in the FluvalConnect app.
- Wide coverage: each LED casts light over 110 degrees, from dual angled lightboards.
- Extendable brackets that rest on the aquarium frame, for glass 3 to 15 mm thick.
- IP67 rated light unit (a dust and water resistance rating) with a 50,000 hour rated LED life.

Fluval's published PAR (photosynthetically active radiation, the light plants can use, in micromoles per square metre per second) and lux figures for this light, by depth:
- 8 cm (3 inch): PAR 1500, 74,000 lux
- 15 cm (6 inch): PAR 660, 38,000 lux
- 30 cm (12 inch): PAR 290, 18,000 lux
- 46 cm (18 inch): PAR 170, 10,000 lux
Light falls away quickly with depth, so plants at the bottom of a tall tank get far less than plants near the surface.
Suitable for, and not suitable for
Made for freshwater planted aquariums 88 to 124 cm long. For shorter or longer tanks, Fluval makes 38 W, 60 W and 120 W sizes. Not a reef or marine light. A strong light over a tank without enough plant nutrients or CO2 (carbon dioxide) can grow algae instead of plants, so start at lower brightness and build up. A suspension kit to hang the light is sold separately.
Care
Fluval suggests 8 to 10 hours of light a day for live plants. Clean the lens weekly, as deposits on the lens cut light output: unplug the power supply, lift the light off the tank and wipe it with a damp cloth, without detergents or harsh cleaners. The housing can reach about 57 degrees C in normal use.
Safety
Do not immerse the light, and keep the power supply dry and away from splashes. Loop the cord below the power point (a drip loop) so water cannot run along it into the socket, and use an RCD (safety switch) protected outlet. The power cord cannot be replaced; if it is damaged, the light must be discarded. Do not stare into the light while it is on.
Warranty and delivery
Covered by Fluval's 2 year limited warranty, extended at no charge if you register the light online with Fluval within 30 days of purchase, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ships by standard parcel post.
