Fluval Spec Freshwater Kit

One nano aquarium kit, three sizes – all-glass, filtered and lit, ready to cycle.

The Fluval Spec is an all-glass aquarium kit in black, with a hidden 3-stage filter, an LED light bar and an adjustable circulation pump built in. It's sold here in three volumes – 10 L, 19 L and 60 L – so the same clean aluminium-trimmed look scales from a desktop bowl replacement up to a proper freshwater community tank.

Key features
  • Hidden 3-stage filtration – foam block, activated carbon and Biomax ceramic rings sit in a rear chamber on every size, out of view.
  • LED lighting built in – 7000 K white LEDs across all three sizes, rated 50,000 hours; the 19 L and 60 L run at 10 W, with more LEDs and higher lumen output on the larger tank.
  • Adjustable circulation pump – flow scales with tank size, from roughly 148 L/h on the 10 L up to 500 L/h on the 60 L.
  • Etched-glass and aluminium trim – a cleaner look than a standard rimmed tank.
  • Rear chamber sized for a heater – none is included, but there's room to fit one on every size.

Which size do I need?

The 10 L suits a single betta or a small shrimp colony on a desk. The 19 L is the most popular size for a small community of nano fish or a planted low-tech layout. The 60 L is large enough for a proper freshwater community – small tetras, rasbora, corydoras or a betta with tankmates – while keeping the same compact footprint and hidden filtration as the smaller sizes.

Will it fit my space?

The 10 L is 27.4 cm deep and 30 cm tall – desk or shelf sized. The 19 L is wider at 49.5 cm but only 16.5 cm deep, suited to a narrow shelf. The 60 L needs a stand or cabinet rated for the filled weight: 60 L of water alone is 60 kg, plus the tank, so use furniture rated for at least 75 kg.

Suitable for, and not suitable for

Suitable for bettas, nano fish, dwarf shrimp and – on the 60 L – a small freshwater community. Not suitable for goldfish or large-bodied fish on any size, and not suitable as a heated tropical setup without adding a separate heater.

Running costs and noise

LED and pump together draw well under 15 W on the 10 L and 19 L, and under 20 W on the 60 L. Run lighting 8–10 hours a day and the pump continuously, and annual running cost is a few dollars at typical Australian electricity prices. All three pumps are designed to run quietly submerged.

Warranty and delivery

Fluval backs the Spec range with a 2-year limited warranty, in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Glass items ship via standard parcel courier with fragile handling; the 60 L is heavier and bulkier to freight than the two smaller sizes.

Common questions

What's the difference between the three sizes?

They share the same design – hidden 3-stage filter, built-in LED and adjustable pump – scaled up in dimensions, LED output and pump flow. The 60 L also gets more LEDs and a stronger pump to suit the larger water volume.

Does any size come with a heater?

No. Every size has a rear chamber sized to fit a small heater, but you'll need to buy one separately for tropical fish.

Can I keep a small community in the 60 L?

Yes – the 60 L suits a small freshwater community such as tetras, rasbora or corydoras, within normal stocking guidelines for the volume.

Is the pump adjustable on every size?

Yes, flow is adjustable on all three, which helps with slow-swimming or long-finned fish like bettas.
