Frozen Tropical Quintet 100g

Feed four natural ingredients from one frozen cube. Ocean Nutrition Frozen Tropical Quintet combines artemia, bloodworm, daphnia and mysis in a single frozen food, made for tropical freshwater fish that do well on a varied, whole-ingredient diet rather than dry food alone.

The 100 g blister pack is divided into individual cubes, so you break off what a feed requires and keep the rest frozen. It is a prepared frozen food, not a live animal and not a treatment or medication.

Key features
  • Four ingredients in one cube – artemia, bloodworm, daphnia and mysis, so you are not buying and storing four separate tubs.
  • Whole natural ingredients – closer to the varied diet tropical fish take in the wild than a single-protein food.
  • Frozen rather than freeze-dried – retains more natural moisture and nutrients than a dried equivalent.
  • Individually portioned cubes – break off one cube at a time and return the rest to the freezer.
  • Works in a mixed tropical tank – suits community fish alongside larger species such as cichlids and discus.
  • Simple, published composition – four named foods, no filler grains or meals listed.

Suitable for / not suitable for

Suitable for: tropical freshwater aquariums generally. Ocean Nutrition markets this blend for tropical fish and specifically lists it as suitable for discus and cichlids, which both do well on a varied, protein-rich diet.

Not suitable for: marine or reef systems – this is the freshwater Tropical Quintet, a separate product from Ocean Nutrition's Marine Quintet. It is not intended as the sole diet in every tank; treat it as part of a varied feeding routine alongside a staple flake, pellet or other prepared food rather than a full replacement.

Ingredients

Ingredient declaration, reproduced exactly as published by the manufacturer:

Artemia, bloodworms (large and small), daphnia, mysis.

Guaranteed analysis
Constituent Level
Crude protein 6.0%
Crude fat 0.8%
Ash 1.8%
Moisture 90.5%

Crude fibre is not published by the manufacturer for this product. The figures above reflect a high-moisture whole-ingredient food, so they are not directly comparable to a concentrated flake or pellet analysis.

Feeding rate and frequency

Manufacturer guidance is to feed two to five times a day, offering only as much as your fish will fully consume within five minutes. Uneaten food breaks down quickly in the tank, so start with a small amount and add more only if it is being eaten.

How to thaw and rinse

Break off the cubes you need and thaw them briefly in a small container of aquarium water rather than at room temperature. Once thawed, tip the food through a fine net held over a sink to drain off the liquid, then rinse with a little extra tank water to clear away fine debris before adding it to the aquarium. You can release it directly into the tank or use a pipette to target-feed individual fish.

It is not harmful to feed the food while it is still frozen, so thawing first is really about convenience and portion control rather than a strict requirement.

Storage and cold-chain note

Store this product frozen at all times. Once a cube has fully thawed and warmed above roughly 7°C, do not refreeze it – use it or discard it, and check for any off or foul odour before feeding.

Warranty and delivery

This product is covered by the consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, including that it is of acceptable quality and fit for the purpose sold. If there is a genuine problem with the product itself, contact us and we will arrange a remedy in line with your ACL rights.

Frozen food is pick up only from our North Lakes store, because a pack that thaws on the way cannot be refrozen.

Common questions

Is this a live food?

No. It is a frozen, prepared food made from artemia, bloodworm, daphnia and mysis – processed and frozen into cubes, not supplied live.

Can I feed the cube while it is still frozen?

Yes. It is not harmful to feed frozen fish food to your fish while still frozen, though thawing first gives more control over portion size and lets you rinse away excess liquid.

Will this suit my community tropical tank?

It is sold as a general tropical freshwater food and specifically listed as suitable for discus and cichlids. As with any new food, introduce it gradually and watch how your fish respond.

Can I refreeze a cube after it has thawed?

Only if it has not fully thawed – if it still contains ice crystals or has stayed cold for under about two hours, it can go back in the freezer. Once fully thawed and warmed up, use it or discard it rather than refreezing.

Is a crude fibre figure published for this food?

No. The manufacturer publishes crude protein, crude fat, ash and moisture for this product, but not crude fibre, so we have listed only the figures that are actually published.
